Chapter 72 The Bewildered Woman
Upon noticing Adrian's hesitation, Alice gently grasped his arm. "Adrian, please don't leave. The road is treacherous in this rain," she implored."Very well. Arrange a guest room for me," he responded, his gaze settling on Alice. "I have a video conference later, so I won't be able to keep you company. Make sure you go to bed early."Avery chuckled at this exchange. "Alice, Adrian cares for you so much."
Once Adrian had ascended the stairs, Avery swiftly turned to Alice. "It's been quite some time since you took Natalie's place. How are things progressing? Is there any news of a pregnancy? It's crucial that you conceive as soon as possible."Alice's gaze flickered towards Avery, but she couldn't bring herself to reveal that Adrian had yet to lay a finger on her. Despite her numerous stays at Riverside Villa, Adrian had always found an excuse to retreat to his study for the night, citing work as his reason.During these times, she barely caught a glimpse of him, which led her to seek him out at the Howard Group today.Avery's persistent prodding only served to heighten Alice's agitation. "Mom, it's not as simple as you think!" she protested.Lately, Adrian's demeanor towards her had grown increasingly frosty. Or perhaps, he had never harbored any warmth for her in the first place.Adrian found solace on the second-floor balcony, seeking refuge in the solitude of his cigarette. His hands rested on the window sill as he observed the relentless downpour. Suddenly, a car pulling up caught his attention. It was late, and the rain was pouring; surely, no guests were expected. The car came to a halt, and Natalie emerged. The windshield wipers swung back and forth, and Jagger extended a black umbrella towards her. Natalie dismissed his offer, assuring him, "No need, I will be home soon. You should use it, Dr. Kamel."Upon witnessing her insistence, Jagger sighed, stepping out of the car to shield her from the rain before placing the umbrella in her hands.Adrian's handsome face was barely discernible through the pale blue smoke wafting from his cigarette on the second floor. His fingers slowly curled into a fist, and he slammed it against the window sill. His expression hardened as his phone vibrated. A message from Brice awaited him, containing a screenshot from Facebook. It depicted Jagger with his arm wrapped around Natalie at a party, with his girlfriend claiming that Jagger was her boyfriend.Adrian's fists tightened as he stared at the photo. No wonder Natalie had been absent for a month. She seemed to have vanished from school as well, and had stopped attending classes.Whenever Adrian went to the Imperial Nightclub, she seemed to deliberately avoid him. It was as if she had completely disappeared from his world over the past month.Adrian should have felt a sense of relief. A woman who was vain, drugged him, and attempted to seduce him, exploiting her resemblance to his wife, had finally vanished from his life. He should have been elated. He had encountered many women like her before. However, Adrian found that he was far from happy. On several occasions during school, he had called out Natalie's name, only to be met with silence. Seeing other men escort her home, he even contemplated teaching this confused woman a lesson!Adrian took a deep drag of his cigarette, his eyes narrowing as he muttered through gritted teeth, "Natalie."
