Chapter 837 The Future

Chris said, "The film's got that artsy vibe but still feels real, and it's dropping just in time for Christmas. This one's gonna sweep all the awards this year. Natalie, trust me, this movie's gonna blow up your career."

Natalie got home, took a shower, and flopped onto her bed.

Chris's words kept playing in her head as he left.

His voice was so confident, and it was like there was a fire in his eyes, lighting up the whole winter.

She then realized that even though "The Nameless Road" was from a female perspective, it felt like Chris himself.

Alice awoke in the morning.

The anesthesia had worn off a while ago. Even with the IV and pain pump, every move hurt like hell. Alice winced in pain, her eyes darting around the room. She was in a hospital, with an oxygen mask on. A nurse saw Alice was awake and quickly called Curtis and Avery, who were waiting outside.

In just two days, both of them had gotten some gray hairs.

Avery didn't look like her usual polished self; her eyes were red and she looked worn out.

Seeing Alice awake, they both let out a sigh of relief.

The Howard family's butler was also outside the ICU and immediately called the family.

Melissa showed up ten minutes later.

She hadn't gone far, just stayed at a hotel across from the hospital for the night.

Curtis and Avery talked outside and decided to keep the news of Alice's hysterectomy from her for now, telling her instead that she had a ruptured ectopic pregnancy.

They ran this by Melissa, who frowned and thought it was a bad idea.

Melissa said, "Alice will have to know eventually."

Melissa had some sympathy for Alice, but it was all based on keeping the Howard family's interests from harm.

When it came to the family's interests, Melissa wouldn't budge.

Avery thought Melissa was being heartless. "Alice ended up like this because of Howard family, and you won't even agree to this? That's too cruel."

Melissa's lips curled slightly. "Is that so?"

Her voice was cold, with no warmth or emotion, and she looked at Avery.

Avery suddenly felt a chill, unsure if Melissa was denying the first part of her sentence or the second.

Avery thought, 'If it's the first part, then does Melissa know something? There's definitely something off with the pregnancy. But Alice didn't say, only mentioning she's about to become one of the Howard family members. Could Melissa have found out something? Alice hasn't told me anything.'

Avery shot back, "What are you saying? Our Alice has lost two kids already. What a pity! Do families like yours have no compassion at all? Alice almost died because of this, and she can't handle such a shock."

Curtis added, "Yeah, even if we have to tell Alice, we need some time, until she recovers."

Melissa finally agreed.

Alice was moved to a regular room.

Claire came to visit.

Alice learned from Curtis and Avery that she had a ruptured ectopic pregnancy and had major surgery. No wonder her lower abdomen hurt so much. She knew this baby couldn't be saved; she had found out about the ectopic pregnancy the first time. But since the hospital director was friends with John, who had donated medical equipment several times, changing a medical record was a piece of cake.
