Chapter 599 Did I Do Something Wrong?
Claire glanced at Alice's soft demeanor, feeling more and more bummed out. She realized Adrian was being a total jerk, always buried in work and ignoring Alice.
Claire sighed and shook her head. "It's already 3 o'clock, and the Howard Group clocks out at 5. It takes half an hour to drive there. What can you even do in an hour? Just stay here and have dinner with us tonight."
Alice, being the shy type, needed Claire to lay it out straight to Adrian.
With Claire's words, Adrian had no choice but to ditch his work. He plopped back down on the sofa. Seeing Adrian's move, Claire , alight with happiness, figured she had had Alice been through a lot, so she quickly got up and left with Lori and the others, giving Adrian and Alice some alone time.
Alice sat up from the sofa, hobbled to the wheelchair, and with a voice choked with tears, said, "Adrian, I don't know what I did wrong. You've been so distant lately, and it's killing me. If I messed up, just tell me. Don't shut me out like this."
"No, you didn't do anything wrong, Alice. It's on me. I've been swamped and totally neglected your feelings." Adrian looked at Alice's face, which at this moment looked a lot like Natalie's, and felt a sudden sting and helplessness in his heart. "Alice, you saved me and my mom. I'm always grateful to you."
Adrian had seen Alice's video and knew that the photos blowing up on Facebook were all Alice's doing to frame and slander Natalie. Initially, when he checked Natalie's records, it was Alice who had messed with them.
Alice was a far cry from the innocent and pure girl she pretended to be.
She was full of schemes and jealousy.
But that didn't change the fact that Alice had saved Adrian and Claire.
Adrian said, "Alice, I can give you some money. You mentioned you want to study design abroad. I can set you up at the best school there. Once your leg heals, I'll send you over right away."
Alice was stunned. She hadn't expected Adrian to say this, which was basically a soft rejection. The thought of it made Alice clench her fingers in panic.
She thought, 'Everything's been going so well. Why would Adrian suddenly suggest sending me abroad? Does Adrian intend to cancel our engagement? No way, I've schemed for so long and put up with so much to marry into the Howard family. I can't agree to this.'
"Adrian, did I do something wrong? Are you trying to send me away?" A tear rolled down Alice's face, making her look pitiful.
"Alice, this is for the best for both of us," Adrian said, "Think about it."
"No, Adrian, I don't want to leave you. I love you, and everyone in Vachilit knows I'm your fiancée. If you don't marry me, what will I do, Adrian?" Alice bit her lip, tears streaming down her face.
"Adrian, is this because of Natalie?" Seeing Adrian's expression change instantly, she knew it had everything to do with Natalie.
Alice wimpered, "Adrian, I really love you. I don't care about Natalie. We're good friends. If you like Natalie, I can ignore it. I'm your fiancée. I've been by your side for so long, Adrian. I gave you my virginity. How can you..."
