Chapter 1084 Prisoner

"And you asked me to be Alice's stand-in. Mr. Cullen, you brought this on yourself. Your pampering of Alice led to this mess. You deserve everything that's happening to you—the company's collapse, the debt, all of it."

Curtis was taken aback, breathing heavily, and stayed silent for a long time. Finally, he asked, "Natalie, can you really watch me fall apart?"

With all that debt, Curtis saw no way out but to jump off a building.

Natalie gazed into the distance, her lips barely moving. "Mr. Cullen, I never meant to hurt anyone. This is all on you. You and Avery are married; you should've supported each other and taken care of your daughter together. Alice turned out this way because you didn't raise her right, and Avery was your choice. You picked her and left Rosalie."

A whole chain of events followed. Out of jealousy and spite, Rosalie secretly swapped Natalie and Alice when they were kids, flipping their lives. And Avery, driven by jealousy and anger, took it out on Natalie, beating and scolding her since she was little.

Natalie hung up the phone and told the caregiver she was stepping out for a bit, asking them to look after Adrian and call her if anything came up.

She was heading to the police station to see Avery.

Avery was in detention, waiting for her court date next week.

Derek pulled up at the police station entrance.

In the visiting room, Avery was brought in, handcuffed and looking a mess. She walked heavily, and on closer look, she had shackles on her feet too.

Seeing Natalie, Avery froze for a moment, then screamed in disbelief, "How are you still alive?"

She lunged forward, clawing and screaming, but the guards quickly restrained her.

Natalie stood up and smiled, "Of course I'm alive, Avery. Sorry to disappoint you."

Avery lost it, screaming hysterically. Natalie's presence seemed to snap her last nerve. She desperately wanted to kill Natalie, but here she was, locked up while Natalie was still alive, fit as a fiddle.

Natalie looked at Avery, whose twisted face was sickening.

Avery struggled and roared like a wild animal. Two guards held her down, and Natalie said, "This morning, Curtis called me. He said he divorced you, blaming you for his downfall. The Cullen Group is going bankrupt, and he's drowning in debt, thinking about jumping off a building."

Avery slowly calmed down, staring at Natalie in a daze.

"I wonder if things would be different if he had chosen Rosalie instead of you. No murderous daughter like Alice, no murderous wife like you. Curtis begged me to ask the Howard family to spare the Cullen Group, for the sake of the years I spent in the Cullen Mansion's backyard," Natalie repeated Curtis's words.

Avery fell to her knees. "You vicious woman. Rosalie, that bitch! Both of you deserve to die!"

Natalie walked up to her. "This world doesn't owe you anything, Avery. Everyone relies on their own abilities. Some live brilliantly, while others, like you, end up prisoners. But Avery, this is all your own doing."
