Chapter 989 At All Costs

'The idea of a stand-in is just nuts. I even had Natalie stand in for me at my own engagement party with Adrian because I was stuck in the hospital with an allergy. One bad move leads to another,' Alice thought, leaning against Avery's chest.

Alice huffed, "Mom, I feel awful. How could Adrian pick Natalie, a servant's daughter? She's so beneath me! I'm way better than Natalie. Why won't he choose me? Why does he still like her even though I met him first?"

"Alice, you're too obsessed. Let's go home," Avery said.

Alice watched the car drive away, tears and anger in her eyes. 'I won't let Natalie get away with this! Even if it costs me everything, I won't let her go! Natalie, you're not just taking away the guy I love, you want my parents too! If you were gone, that would be perfect.'

Natalie looked out the car window. "Where are we going?"

"To our home," Adrian replied.

"Our home?" Natalie repeated softly.

"Yeah, our home."

The car stopped at Bayview Villa.

Natalie got out and walked inside the villa, only to have Lucky jump on her.

"Can you stay one more day?" Adrian asked, taking off his suit and walking into the living room.

"Me?" Natalie hesitated. "I only have weekends off, and the crew starts filming on Monday."

"I'll get you a day off. I need you for something on Monday," Adrian said, holding her hand.

"Is it important?" Natalie asked.

Adrian lowered his head and kissed her forehead. "Yeah, very important."

"Okay," she nodded with a bright smile.

That night, Curtis came home.

Even though Avery was upset about Curtis and Natalie's conversation in the private room, and Rosalie was still a sore spot for her, their relationship was starting to get better, so Avery held back. That night, they made up. Avery knew Curtis had been involved with his secretary but pretended it didn't happen.

Men always liked gentle, understanding wives. Curtis felt guilty for keeping a secretary on the side and held Avery's hand.

The next day, Curtis went to the hospital to visit Rosalie.

He learnt from the doctor about Rosalie's condition; she was in a coma, and it was uncertain if she would wake up. Curtis sighed as he looked at her lying in the hospital bed and stayed in the room for a while, talking to her.

He thought back to his college days.

The first time he met Rosalie, she was beautiful, gentle, and kind, like a water lily, both stunning and serene.

Many guys chased after Rosalie, but she chose Curtis.

Curtis wanted to work hard, make money, start a company, and live happily with Rosalie. But things didn't go as planned.

After an hour, Curtis left and told the hospital he would cover all of Rosalie's medical expenses.

In the elevator, Jerry walked in carrying water and food just as Curtis, dressed in a suit, was walking out.

Jerry was momentarily stunned.

With the sudden encounter, Curtis didn't recognize him.

Jerry realized he had reached the 6th floor, where Rosalie was hospitalized. He walked back to the room and saw Rosalie lying there as a nurse came in to check on her and told Jerry that someone had just visited Rosalie and offered to pay for all her medical expenses.
