Chapter 120 Leave without Hesitation
Renee cast a fleeting glance at Natalie, unable to suppress the acknowledgment that Natalie's figure was indeed striking. Even the garments from the street vendor, priced modestly at a little over ten dollars, appeared high fashion when draped over her.
Renee then escorted Natalie to the Outroom Cafe.
Surveying the bustling cafe, Renee found no sign of David. She hastily dialed his number, her voice carrying a tinge of impatience. "David, why are you not here yet? Natalie and I have already arrived."
"Renee, I'm caught in traffic," David's voice echoed from the other end. "I'll be there shortly, I promise. You two go ahead and find a table."
Natalie turned to Renee, her eyes filled with confusion. "Why have you brought me here? What am I supposed to do?"
"Mrs. Cullen has arranged a blind date for you," Renee replied. "The gentleman is quite agreeable. You'll meet him soon enough. Try not to appear ungrateful." Renee seldom frequented places like the Outroom Cafe, and as she took in the surroundings, she was reminded of the fact that she was footing the bill, which left a sour taste in her mouth.
"A blind date?" Natalie's eyes widened in disbelief. "Renee, what are you implying? I have a boyfriend, I don't need a blind date," she retorted, preparing to make her exit.
However, Renee promptly blocked her path, her ample figure serving as an effective barrier. "How ungrateful of you! Mrs. Cullen warned that if you leave, your mother's medication will be discontinued today."
Natalie's expression shifted dramatically at this revelation.
Avery had pinpointed her vulnerability with precision. Nothing was more crucial to Natalie than Rosalie's wellbeing.
Renee observed Natalie's reaction and knew she had capitulated. She promptly cornered her against the table. "Before making such a statement, shouldn't you evaluate your own situation? Do you really believe a doctor with a reputable career would be interested in you? Why not consider someone who leads a modest, honest life? My nephew, for instance, is exceptional and hardworking."
Natalie scoffed, "Your nephew? Renee, if I recall correctly, your good-for-nothing nephew was recently released from prison, wasn't he? He served over six months for robbery."
Avery certainly had a knack for finding the most unsuitable candidates. She'd even managed to rope in Renee's disreputable nephew.
Renee was momentarily taken aback. "My nephew is more than suitable for you. Have you taken a moment to reflect on your own actions? Considering all the underhanded things you've done, I'm concerned my nephew might be the one who ends up wronged."
Their conversation was interrupted by the arrival of a rotund figure. The man, who appeared to be in his mid-twenties, was clad in a leather jacket, his sleek, greasy hair combed back, his belly protruding noticeably. "Renee, my apologies, I was delayed by traffic," David announced.
Despite his careful grooming, David only succeeded in appearing more unctuous. As soon as he took his seat, his gaze fell upon Natalie. Her face was elegant, her features refined, and her lack of makeup only enhanced her natural beauty. David was thoroughly pleased.
"So you must be Natalie, I'm David," he said, giving Renee a look, implying that she was in the way and should leave first.
Understanding the signal, Renee stood up and said, "David, Natalie is a servant of the Cullen family. Now that you two have officially met, it would be wonderful if you could arrange a date soon, assuming you find each other agreeable."
Natalie's brow furrowed slightly. Renee had said her piece, yet Natalie hadn't uttered a word. Was her future being decided without her consent? The idea was ludicrous! She couldn't help but wonder what Avery's true motive was. Why would she introduce her to a potential suitor without any prior warning?
Once Renee had departed, Natalie turned to David and clarified, "I have a boyfriend. I'm sorry, but today's meeting was a misunderstanding. Renee didn't inform me beforehand that this was a blind date. If there's nothing else, I'll take my leave."
With that, Natalie rose from her seat.
As she prepared to depart, David swiftly seized her wrist. "Hey, don't go."
Natalie furrowed her brows, wanting to pull her hand away, but David held on tightly.
"Let go! Release me!"
"Don't be angry," David smirked and gently squeezed Natalie's slender wrist in a manner that bordered on inappropriate. Eventually, he released his hold. "Even if Renee tricked us both, I approached this blind date with you in earnest. See, I even bought your clothes."
His words were punctuated by a chuckle, his rotund form exuding an unpleasant, almost grimy scent.
Natalie's patience had reached its limit. Her voice seethed with anger as she retorted, "Well, I'm really sorry about that. I didn't intend to wear this outfit. Don't worry, I'll go back and change immediately and return it to you."
David's expression shifted abruptly at her words, but he swiftly regained his composure, his eyes flickering rapidly. Aware that he couldn't push her too far, he offered a compromise. "It's just a piece of clothing. I'm not that stingy. How about this, you go back and think it over, and I'll await your favorable response."
Natalie was taken aback. She hadn't expected David to let her go so easily.
But now she didn't want to stay for another moment and left without hesitation.
Once she was out of sight, the smile on David's face evaporated. He muttered a curse under his breath, "Ungrateful woman. Sooner or later, you'll willingly submit to me!"
