Chapter 1389 Perhaps We Misunderstood

This year, the Howard manor wasn't open to visitors.

Anyone who came by was kindly turned away.

Ruben's health was getting worse, with several heart issues cropping up.

Natalie walked into the living room, where only a few people were scattered around.

Claire was absent, and Ruben was resting upstairs.

Only the servants were bustling about.

As Natalie entered, she saw Andrea sitting on the couch chatting with Melissa. When Melissa noticed Natalie, she said, "Hey, Natalie's back. Adrian's out on the back patio."

Natalie nodded and greeted her aunt politely.

After taking a few steps forward, she saw Daniel coming down the stairs, and their eyes met.

Daniel spoke first, "You're back."

Natalie smiled faintly and nodded, "Yeah."

Melissa glanced up briefly, watching Daniel and Natalie exchange greetings before they each went their separate ways.

Melissa finally breathed a sigh of relief.

She had been worried that Daniel was still hung up on Natalie.

Andrea noticed the change in Melissa's expression. With a glint in her eye, she casually remarked, "Natalie and Daniel seem to have known each other for a long time. They're really close."

Melissa frowned, "Who told you that?"

"I could just see it. The way Daniel and Natalie greeted each other was so natural, like old friends. Plus, I've seen…" Andrea trailed off, covering her mouth as if hesitant to continue.

Sensing something was off, Melissa pressed, "What is it, Andrea? If you have something to say, just say it. What did you see?"

Andrea looked around to make sure no one else was listening, then lowered her voice, "Aunt Melissa, maybe I was mistaken."

The more Andrea acted coy, the more Melissa wanted to know. She demanded, "What did you see? Spill it!"

"I saw… I once saw Daniel take off his jacket and put it over Natalie's shoulders. They were very close."

Melissa gritted her teeth, "What?"

Andrea embellished, "Daniel had his arm around Natalie's shoulders, and they were standing very close. It seemed strange to me at the time, but I didn't think much of it because Natalie is with Adrian, and Daniel has a girlfriend."

Melissa hissed, "Outrageous!"

Her sharp tone startled the nearby servants.

Melissa stood up, ready to confront either Daniel or Natalie, but Andrea stopped her. "Aunt Melissa, today is Christmas. We still need to have dinner together. Grandpa will be coming down soon… He hasn't been well since Rachel went missing. Let's not upset him."

Melissa took a moment to calm down. "You're right. We shouldn't air our dirty laundry in public. Natalie is already married to Adrian, yet she's still flirting with Daniel! If this gets out, it will be scandalous!"

Andrea smiled slightly, pretending to be concerned. "Aunt Melissa, maybe we're just misunderstanding the situation?"

"Misunderstanding?" Melissa's face was stern. "Natalie used to flirt with Daniel. I thought Daniel had moved on, but it seems she still has a hold on him."

"So Daniel hasn't been dating anyone because of Natalie."

Seeing Melissa's expression darken further, Andrea continued to fan the flames.

Melissa's brow furrowed deeper. She had worried so much about Daniel, only to find out he still couldn't forget that woman.
