Chapter 367 Contempt
It had been eight months, and Adrian barely talked to Alice except to ask about the baby. So did the Howard family all they cared about was the baby Alice was carrying.
Claire seemed nice and easygoing, but she was actually pretty sly. Whenever Avery brought up the wedding with Claire and Melissa, they just said, "It's up to Adrian and Alice."
Avery stood up. "Get me a driver. I'm heading to the Imperial Nightclub."
Renee quickly replied, "Yes!"
If Avery was going, Renee had to follow. She waddled behind Avery, twisting her plump waist. Avery looked annoyed. "You should stay home and rest." He glanced at the maid cleaning the study. "Lizzy, you come with me."
Lizzy stood up, looked at the cleaning tools in her hand, then at Renee. She handed the tools to Renee, who gave her a look but took them. "Lizzy, take good care of Mrs. Cullen."
Lizzy's inner voice groaned. "Like I haven't figured that out already," she thought.
Renee was technically a servant but acted like the housekeeper, bossing around the other four servants in the Cullen household. She avoided hard work and acted superior, which annoyed Lizzy and the other maids. They didn't dare say anything openly but secretly despised her.
At the Imperial Nightclub, Avery walked out of the elevator and headed straight for Emma's office.
Lizzy followed him to the manager's office door. Avery told her, "Go find Alice and tell her to go home early."
Lizzy nodded.
Avery entered Emma's office without knocking, just turned the doorknob and walked in with a cold expression. Lizzy checked the door number. She thought Avery was there to cause trouble for Natalie. She had already texted Natalie, warning her about Avery. She didn't expect him to be looking for Manager Emma.
She felt guilty about what had happened before. When Rosalie was the housekeeper, she was always kind. Rosalie never mistreated the servants.
And Natalie, she had known her for a long time and they were friends in the Cullen family.
Last time, she had leaked Natalie's new address to Alice, leading Alice to steal Natalie's necklace pendant. She always felt bad about it.
Emma wasn't in her office. She was dealing with a situation in one of the private rooms where Dorothy had spilled drinks on a wealthy woman's high heels. The woman was angry and slapped Dorothy several times, demanding compensation. They were in a standoff.
Emma got a call from her assistant saying Avery was in her office waiting for her.
Emma felt annoyed. She was in the middle of everything, and here came Avery. She knew it was about firing Natalie.
Natalie was lucky. That night, Artie had drugged Colby and Natalie, but nothing happened to Natalie.
Emma had expected trouble at the nightclub, giving her an excuse to fire Natalie. But nothing happened.
Artie had assured her everything was fine. He had sent Colby and Natalie to the hotel, but it didn't go as planned.
Even though the plan failed, Emma had used her connections to bail Artie's troublesome brother out of the police station. She might still need Artie in the future.
Standing at the private room door, her headache growing, she called Avery back. "Mrs. Cullen."
