Chapter 774 A Good Teacher and Helpful Friend
Chris leaned back in his chair, a confident grin on his face. "The plot's solid, and we've already got the marketing team on board. We've got plenty of time; we'll submit it for review next month, and it should get the green light pretty quick."
Natalie nodded, trying to hide her excitement.
If this movie got released, it would be her first time as the lead in a film.
She was super excited but also a bit nervous and scared.
Chris gave her a reassuring smile. "I really think this movie's gonna be a hit, for both of us."
Natalie nodded again, feeling a wave of gratitude.
When she got replaced in "One Day" and felt totally lost, Chris had called her up for this movie. She loved the script so much she couldn't shake off the character even after filming. Chris was more than just a mentor; he was a friend in the crazy world of showbiz.
"Hey, Chris, do you know a screenwriter named Anouk?" Natalie asked.
"I've heard of her, but never worked with her," Chris replied. "Anouk's got a pretty diverse style—teen flicks, palace dramas, suspense stuff. She's really talented. If we get the chance, we should definitely team up with her."
Chris figured Natalie had a script from Anouk and wanted his take on it.
"Got it," Natalie said.
They finally left the screening room after four long hours.
The screening was four hours, but the final cut would be shorter, probably around two hours like most movies.
The lead actors and main script team jotted down their thoughts based on the rough cut. The post-production editor would make the necessary cuts, and then they'd have another disscusion on the final version.
Chris threw on his jacket. "Let's go. Lunch is on me."
Natalie called Derek, her driver, and told him to take the afternoon off. But Derek insisted on waiting until she finished lunch to drive her home.
No matter what she said, Derek wouldn't budge.
"It's my job," Derek said firmly.
Natalie had to give in.
When they got outside, Chris was about to drive but realized his car was with a friend. Natalie offered, "My driver’s here; he can take us to the restaurant."
Derek was driving a sleek Mercedes S-Class.
Chris glanced at Derek, a young man. Most celeb drivers were older, so Chris figured Derek must be a relative or friend of Natalie's.
They finally pulled up in front of a restaurant.
"Derek, join us for lunch," Natalie said.
Derek looked surprised. "Are you sure?"
"Why not? You haven't eaten yet, right? You wanna starve out here?"
Derek admitted, "I had some instant noodles."
Natalie laughed. "See, as your boss, I should treat you to a proper meal. Plus, Chris is paying, so relax."
Chris chuckled, "Guess I'm the one getting taken advantage of here."
Derek smiled. "Thanks, Ms. Teeger, and thank you, Mr. Griffin."
After Derek parked the car, it was around 3 PM, that awkward time between lunch and dinner, so the parking lot was pretty empty.
They headed up to the second floor and ordered their food.
While they were eating, Natalie and Chris were deep in conversation about the plot when suddenly, gunshots rang out from outside.
Natalie jumped, her eyes darting to the window.
They were on Main Street, with lots of shops around, including a jewelry store.
The gunshots came from there.
People outside freaked out and started running, trying to get away from the danger.
Chris glanced at Natalie, his face tense.
