Chapter 503 Sapphire
Natalie waved goodbye to Heather, who had to head back to the office to deal with a ton of stuff.
Later that afternoon, Natalie and Bella hit the mall. Bella was on a spending spree, grabbing anything that caught her eye. Natalie, on the other hand, had a decent stash of cash but wasn't into splurging on fancy stuff. She was all about comfy, durable cotton clothes.
In this chic boutique, Bella held up a green spaghetti strap dress and asked, "What do you think of this one?"
Natalie gave it a quick look. "It's alright."
Bella didn't waste a second. "Get her size," she told the sales assistant.
Natalie sighed, rubbing her forehead. "You've already bought me a bunch of stuff. My closet's bursting."
Bella shoved the dress into her hands and nudged her towards the fitting room. "Just try it on. Trust me, it'll look killer. Adrian's gonna flip."
Natalie slipped into the fitting room, shut the door, and changed into the dress. She realized the waist and back were all lace cutouts.
Natalie was slim but had a full chest, so she usually had to size up, making the waist too loose. But this dress fit her waist perfectly.
But those lace cutouts, though.
She thought she must've grabbed the wrong dress.
Then she remembered Bella whispering about how Adrian would love it.
Her cheeks turned bright red.
She stepped out, and Bella asked, "Well? Do you like it?" Before Natalie could even nod, Bella told the sales assistant, "We'll take it."
Natalie just shook her head and smiled.
After Bella paid, they headed to a café.
They grabbed a table and chatted for a bit. Bella pulled out a black velvet box from her bag and handed it to Natalie. "Open it. See if you like it."
Natalie opened it to find a stunning sapphire. "Is Swan Jewelry Company dropping a new line?"
Bella shook her head. "Nope. This is from Adrian, thanking me for passing you the phone."
Natalie remembered that one time at Harold's BBQ when Adrian called, and she had Bella answer, pretending she was in the restroom.
Because of that, when Adrian got back, they ended up having a wild time in the car, leaving her sore all over.
Bella suggested, "I'll design a pair of rings tonight, one for each of us. Gotta say, Mr. Howard's pretty generous. This sapphire rough is exclusive to the Howard Group's jewelry store. Top-quality stuff, and sapphires have tripled in price."
Bella pursed her lips, looking at Natalie. They'd known each other for nearly 10 years, since middle school.
At first, Bella didn't like Natalie. Thought she was too proud and stubborn.
In their second year of middle school, a girl who had beef with Bella signed her up for a long-distance run as a prank.
The sports committee guy had a crush on that girl and submitted the form.
Once it was stamped, Bella couldn't back out. The teacher said she could just jog a bit, participation was what mattered, even if she came in last.
On the day of the sports meet, Bella got her period and was in agony. Running was out of the question; even walking hurt. She lay on her desk, miserable, and started crying.
That was when Natalie stepped up and ran for her.
