Chapter 584 Compromise
Natalie jumped up. "So, you know the woman in the pic is Alice, and you're still backing her? It doesn't mess with me, but if I drop this video, Alice is toast. No comeback, no Howard family wedding, nothing. Everything you're doing is for Alice, right?"
Adrian shot a look at Natalie, who was starting to lose it, and called out, "Natalie!"
Natalie whipped out her phone and played the video. It showed Alice tangled up with a bunch of dudes, and the HD footage left nothing to the imagination, including Alice's moans.
Adrian's eyes narrowed as he watched, his fists clenching. "Natalie, cut it out!"
Natalie took a step back, shocked, then burst out laughing. "So, you know this wild woman is Alice, and you still wanna help her? You're scared I'll post it and ruin her, so you said today was all about me, brought me here to have fun, but it was just to get me to cancel the press conference and not drop the video, right?"
Adrian knew Natalie had him all wrong, but he couldn't explain it now. He had no more sympathy for Alice, who had played him for too long and set Natalie up, making him misunderstand her for ages.
However, Alice had saved his life once and his mom's too.
Claire's health had been acting up lately. If she saw this, it would make things worse. Plus, he was still engaged to Alice. If her rep took a hit, the Howard Group would suffer.
Donte would jump at the chance, and there'd be another mess over the Howard Group's control.
Adrian decided to repay Alice for saving him and his mom.
After that, he'd find a way to break off the engagement with Alice.
The only woman Adrian wanted to marry was standing right in front of him.
"Natalie, I'll explain everything to you later," Adrian said, looking at her. "I know you don't get it now, but I hope you can trust me."
Adrian had already set things up to handle the public opinion. No one would gossip about Natalie online anymore, and in half a year, people would forget this incident. As long as Natalie had good work, with her looks, the past wouldn't matter.
Natalie stayed calm for a bit, then said, "I'm going to the restroom."
She turned and walked to the restroom.
In the restaurant, Adrian clenched his hands. He didn't have a perfect plan to protect Natalie from unwarranted criticism. Once he broke off the engagement with Alice, he'd give Natalie the grandest wedding ever.
In the restroom, Natalie turned on the faucet full blast and started crying.
She didn't cry when Rosalie had begged for Alice.
But now, Natalie couldn't hold it in anymore.
The person she loved, the person who raised her, were all pleading for Alice.
Natalie had endured days of public pressure, with so many people cursing her. She had proof to clear her name, but now, she had to ditch it. They were all protecting Alice, even knowing her wild and dirty private life.
Natalie watched the sink fill with water.
She lowered her head and pressed her face into the sink, holding her breath.
Slowly, the feeling of suffocation set in, but Natalie didn't lift her head.
