Chapter 19 Worlds Apart

Natalie felt more at ease after sorting out her thoughts. She smiled and said, "We just finished shopping and got caught in the rain."

The night was chilly with the rain.

Adrian noticed Natalie's sudden smile, which was like a beam of sunlight piercing through the clouds.

Bella seized the moment to ask, "Adrian, are you busy? It's so congested because of the rain, and my driver can't get here anytime soon. Could you give us a ride?"

Natalie's smile froze, and she said, "Bella, Adrian's probably busy. We can just grab a cab."

"Get in," Adrian's cool voice cut her off.

Before she could refuse, Bella had already grabbed her arm, opened the car door, and pushed her inside. "I know you too well. You'd never spend the money on a cab. Plus, if we get back late, the Cullen family will give you a hard time again."

Adrian frowned slightly at this.

He glanced at Natalie through the rearview mirror. When their eyes met, she quickly looked away.

She kept her head down the whole ride until Bella got out, leaving just the two of them.

Natalie couldn't shake the feeling that the car had slowed down a lot.

At a red light, Adrian lit a cigarette. The rain had let up, and he slightly rolled down the window. "Do the Cullens often give you a hard time?"

"What?" Natalie was taken aback.

Sitting in the back seat, she could smell the rain mixed with tobacco. She glanced at Adrian, realizing he must have overheard Bella. "No, they treat me well."

Adrian smoked in silence until the light turned green. He restarted the car. "Natalie, you seem scared of me."

"Mr. Howard, you misunderstand. I'm just a servant, and you're a distinguished guest of the Cullen family. I only have respect for you," Natalie said this, her fists clenching slightly in her lap.

She was acutely aware they lived worlds apart. If it weren't for Alice's sudden allergic reaction to alcohol, she would never have the chance to get close to him.

The gap between them weighed heavily on her, always reminding her of her place.

She added, "Besides, you're Alice's fiancé."

It was the truth, but not what Adrian wanted to hear.

He frowned and said nothing more.

When the car stopped at the Cullen family villa, Natalie finally relaxed a bit. She thanked Adrian politely and headed inside.

Adrian watched her retreating figure for a long moment.

Then he got out of the car and followed her in.
