Chapter 279 Blocking the Number

Adrian pulled out his phone, found Natalie's number, and called her. The call didn't go through. He was stunned for a moment, then realized—Natalie must have blocked him! How dare she!

Natalie got home and immediately smelled food. "Mom, what did you make?" she asked, heading to the kitchen where Rosalie was busy with an apron on.

Rosalie smiled, "I made you some pasta. You've had a long day, you must be tired. It'll be ready soon."

Natalie hugged Rosalie from behind, burying her face in her mom's bony shoulder. "Mom, it's so good to have you home."

Rosalie was her only family left. But deep down, Natalie had doubts. Why didn't her DNA match Rosalie's? She was too scared to think about it.

Natalie hugged Rosalie tightly. Rosalie, holding a spatula, patted Natalie's hand. "Let go, the pasta's ready."

The smell of black pepper beef pasta was mouth-watering. "Mom, you should eat some too."

"I won't. Eating too much at night isn't good for my digestion."

Natalie took a bite, and it tasted just like before. Her eyes welled up with tears, which Rosalie noticed. "What's wrong? Has my cooking gotten worse?"

"No, it's just," Natalie choked up, "I haven't had your pasta in so long. It's delicious, even better than before!"

Since Rosalie was hospitalized, Natalie hadn't had her pasta for over six months.

Rosalie smiled, "As long as I'm able, I'll keep making it for you."

"Mom, you'll be healthy and safe."

"Yes, I still want to see you get married."

That night, Natalie couldn't sleep. She leaned on Rosalie's shoulder. "Mom, after this year, once I've saved enough money, I'll take you away. Let's leave this city."

Rosalie's eyes were a bit complicated. "Leave here? Where to?"

"Mom, let's go back to Silvervale Town."

"I'll go along with your plan."

Although Rosalie had surgery and her body functions had recovered, she was still very weak, and her daily medication was expensive. Natalie was very frugal and continued her part-time job at Shoreview General Hospital.

She didn't have much else to do, so taking on an extra job was good.

Shoreview General Hospital had recently admitted a few more patients, including a very young girl, probably in high school. She never spoke, just stared blankly in one direction, and she'd sing at night. Since the sixth floor was reopened, it was filled with patients.

At the hospital, Natalie met Jerry. Jerry hadn't left either.

"This job is pretty good, not too tiring. I'll finish this month and then decide."

"Uncle Jerry, thank you for everything during this time."

"Thank me for what? It's what I should do." Jerry's hunched figure and weathered smile made him look much older than his fifty-some years, more like he was in his sixties or seventies.

"Ms. Teeger, how is your mother doing now?" His bloodshot eyes were full of concern.

Natalie replied, "She's doing well."
