Chapter 755 Escape

Natalie wanted to call Adrian. It had been almost a whole day, and he was probably flipping out looking for her.

The old woman shook her head and mumbled something Natalie could barely catch.

Looked like the village was mostly old folks, and they didn't have any modern gadgets. The old woman had a beat-up cell phone, but it was busted. To reach her kids, she had to trek to the tiny store in town.

The old lady pointed out a path to Natalie and Anouk, saying if they followed it, they'd hit the town.

They thanked her and started heading that way.

Anouk asked, "I'm from Vachilit. Natalie, where are you from?"

The trip was long and dull, so they kept each other going with some chit-chat.

Natalie replied, "Me, too."

Anouk exclaimed, "No way! When we get back, we should totally keep in touch. I mean, it's like fate or something."

Natalie nodded. "Sure, I'll treat you to a meal then."

They were in the boonies. The road was rough, with factories and steel mills on both sides, making the place feel super desolate.

They couldn't help but clench their fingers.

Anouk looked around nervously.

Any sound of a vehicle behind them made them jump like scared cats.

Anouk's voice shook. "Natalie, do you think those people will catch up to us?"

Natalie bit her lip. "That's why we gotta keep moving."

They were on foot. No matter how fast they walked, it'd still take at least two hours to get from the village to the town. Anouk suddenly remembered. "Natalie? That name rings a bell. I remember a celeb named Natalie. I even saw a movie she was in." Anouk looked at Natalie's face and her eyes went wide.

Anouk thought Natalie was drop-dead gorgeous, just like a movie star.

Natalie nodded. "Yeah, that's me."

Anouk was thrilled. "I'm Anouk, a screenwriter for City News Media. What are the odds?"

The two, being around the same age and having just gone through some crazy stuff, felt a bit safer for the moment. Since they both worked in the film industry, they couldn't help but chat a lot.

They temporarily forgot about the danger that might catch up at anytime.

Natalie massaged her numb legs.

Neither of them had a watch, so they couldn't tell the time.

But since it wasn't dark yet, it should be around 6:30 to 7:00 PM.

Natalie said, "We should be close to the town. Let's take a breather."

They were totally wiped out. They hadn't eaten anything since getting kidnapped yesterday, and both were at their limits. But Natalie stayed cautious and didn't plop down by the roadside right away. Instead, she and Anouk hid behind some trees and bushes.

They had walked a long way, and there were hardly any vehicles behind them. At this hour, there wasn't even a single soul around.

The village was mostly old folks, showing how crappy the environment and transportation were.

The only road from the village to the town wasn't very much of a main road but a small muddy path even with factories like steel mills around.

After a short rest, they helped each other up and kept walking when they heard the roar of a motorcycle with the hushed outskirts of the village.
