Chapter 775 First Impressions
"There's probably a bunch of innocent civilians in there. I'll go check it out!" Derek told Natalie to stay put. After a few quick warnings, he dashed out.
Natalie frowned as she watched Derek disappear. It was super dangerous over there. She hoped he'd be careful.
Chris commented, "Your driver seems pretty impressive."
Natalie didn't know much about Derek, either. He looked young, maybe twenty-eight, a lanky man who looked unlikely to be a fighter, but anyone Adrian arranged for her should be special.
Another gunshot rang out, and Natalie's face went pale with fright.
Chris quickly glanced out the window.
The incident was just down the street. They could vaguely see a group of black-clad criminals going in and out of a jewelry store. The outside was filled with chaotic noises, screams for help, and then the street went dead quiet.
Ten minutes later, the street was empty.
Three police cars showed up.
A bunch of armed officers got out and surrounded the jewelry store.
A captain-like figure used a megaphone to shout.
There were probably hostages inside.
Natalie suddenly remembered what Derek had said earlier.
There were a lot of people inside who needed rescuing.
She suddenly saw Derek in a new light.
Her phone buzzed.
Natalie picked it up and saw it was Adrian calling. She answered, "Hello."
"Where are you now?" Adrian's voice sounded anxious.
"At a restaurant," Natalie said. "Something's going down nearby."
"Is Derek with you?" Adrian seemed to know about the robbery.
Natalie didn't want Adrian to blame Derek for not being by her side, so she said, "Yeah, he's here."
Adrian sounded relieved. "A jewelry store nearby got robbed. There are a lot of employees inside. The restaurant you're in is about six stores away from the jewelry store. Stay inside and don't move. Stick with Derek; he'll keep you safe."
"I know. Don't worry," Natalie said. "I won't go out."
Adrian asked, "Who are you having lunch with?"
"With the director of my last movie. We watched the rough cut this morning and then had lunch together," Natalie said, glancing at Chris sitting across from her. Chris seemed to know she was talking to her boyfriend, and there was a glimmer of smile in his eyes. Natalie's face turned red. "Are you still busy?"
"I'll come over tonight," Adrian said. "Is your cold better? Are you still feeling unwell?"
"Much better," Natalie lied. Her cold was getting worse. After all the fuss of Adrian's in the morning, her lips were a bit swollen from all the kissing, luckily, which was unnoticeable because her throat and eyes were swollen from the cold as well.
After hanging up, Natalie took a deep breath.
Chris raised an eyebrow and asked, "Your boyfriend?"
Natalie nodded.
Chris was a bit surprised. "You're really a hopeless romantic. Still not broken up?"
Natalie said, "We're getting along well. Why would we break up?"
"Didn't expect you to be so loyal," Chris said. The first time he worked with Natalie was on the movie "Summer Time." Back then, Natalie was the fourth female lead, barely even in the top eight billing, with just a few minutes of screen time. His first impression of Natalie was that she was just a pretty face.
