Chapter 537 Fever
The wild grass by the tombstone had shot up like crazy.
Looked like no one had swung by in ages.
She used to wonder why Rosalie hardly ever came here.
Now she got it.
Rosalie and Stanley were probably done with each other.
Rosalie's heart was with Curtis.
Marrying Stanley was just Rosalie's way of dealing with life.
Ray got caught in the crossfire between Rosalie and Stanley.
Ryan could've dodged that car crash.
She reached out and gently touched the tombstone, softly caressing Ryan's thin, handsome face.
She bent down, yanked out some weeds, and plopped down in front of the tombstone, chatting with them for a bit.
From the moment she first showed up at the Teeger family, Ryan had been super nice to her. When Ryan was in school, he'd save his pocket money and bring home some bread and cookies. The cash he saved, he'd secretly use to buy her candy.
Back then, Natalie had just been taken in.
She'd spent years with her grandma in her hometown. If it weren't for that earthquake, she might've spent her whole life in Silvervale Town.
After the quake, she got brought to Vachilit. In her mind, Rosalie was gentle but strict, an ordinary and kind woman who was good at putting up with stuff. She always kept her head down when Avery was yelling at her.
Stanley was a straight-up guy.
When Osborn was alive, he took Stanley in as his godson. Stanley always helped Osborn and Curtis, but after Osborn passed away, the Cullen family treated Stanley like a servant.
Curtis, even though he treated Stanley his brother on the surface, deep down, he never really saw Stanley as his bro.
Stanley only had a tiny share of the Cullen family's stock.
When the Cullen Group hit financial trouble, Stanley didn't hesitate to hand over his shares to Curtis. Curtis promised to give Stanley a bigger house so his kids could live more comfortably.
Stanley agreed at the time. Then he got the keys.
It was a three-bedroom, two-living-room apartment outside.
But later, they never moved in. Natalie had no clue why.
Natalie sat in front of the tombstone, lost in memories. Time flew by, and at 6 PM, Natalie stood up too quickly that she had a headrush. She steadied herself by holding onto the tombstone. She resumed her sense and softly said, "Dad, Ryan, I'm outta here. I'll come back to visit when I can."
Natalie took the subway.
She was all bundled up, with a hat, glasses, and a mask. Along the way, people were in a rush and didn't recognize her. She got back to Celestial Garden.
Her head still felt a bit dizzy.
Natalie skipped dinner and hit the sack. She slept until 8 AM the next morning. She slowly propped herself up and instinctively glanced at her phone. It had run out of juice and shut off.
She found the charger in the drawer, plugged in her phone, and dragged her tired self to the bathroom to take a shower.
Feeling listless, Natalie raised her hand to feel her forehead. She had a fever.
Natalie found some fever meds in the first aid kit.
She didn't know when she had caught the fever. Maybe she got a chill at the cemetery yesterday. When she was alone, she tended not to notice these things.
