Chapter 977 Vulnerabilities
Stepping out of the old town where Rosalie's house was situated, Alice finally let out a big sigh of relief.
"How's Rosalie doing? Is she dead? I hit her pretty hard on the back of the head, so she should be, right? But I don't want her to die. I don't want to kill anyone. After all, Rosalie is my biological mother." But then she thought about how Natalie would become the daughter of the Cullen family while she'd be stuck in that rundown old house. Alice just couldn't accept that.
'Everyone who knows the truth, except me, should disappear. That way, I can still be Curtis and Avery's daughter. I can still enjoy the love of the Cullen family.' With that thought, Alice headed back home.
Alice pulled out a gift from her bag, originally meant for a friend's birthday, but she had changed her mind. "Mom, I'm back."
Renee came out, "Mrs. Cullen is upstairs playing poker with some friends."
Alice went up to the second floor.
On the terrace, Avery was playing cards with a few wealthy ladies.
Since Alice's engagement with Adrian was called off, the Cullen Group had thrived with the resources from the Howard Group over the past two years. Now, even without their support, business was booming, and Curtis and Avery had made a lot of friends.
Alice, with her sweet talk, greeted the wealthy ladies.
Avery didn't expect Alice to be so well-behaved today.
Alice took out a velvet box. "Mom, I went shopping today and saw this bracelet. I thought it would look perfect on you."
Lyric Vaughn chimed in, "Alice is so thoughtful. Open it and take a look."
Avery smiled and opened the box. It was a pearl bracelet with a ruby. She had plenty of jewelry, but since Alice bought this, she happily put it on.
"I have so much jewelry, and you still bought me more," Avery said, happily putting the bracelet on her wrist and showing it off to the other ladies.
Lyric laughed, "Alice has great taste. This pearl bracelet looks good on you. Keep it on; it looks better than the jade bangle on your wrist."
"Yes, if I had a thoughtful daughter like Alice, I'd be so happy. Ever since my daughter got married, she moved to Verono and only comes back once or twice a year. Unlike you, with such a beautiful daughter by your side," a wealthy lady said.
In fact, the circle had mocked Avery for Alice being rejected by the Howard family behind their backs.
But as long as there were business interests, they would immediately reconnect. Usually, they played cards and had afternoon tea together, even went to a fancy hotel to get soaked in hot springs.
After sending off the ladies, Avery looked at Alice. After everything that had happened recently, Avery had calmed down. She used to hope Alice would marry well, but now, she just wanted Alice to be healthy and happy. It didn't matter if she didn't marry into a top family like the Howard family.
"Alice, you've grown up now. I'm very happy." Sitting on the couch, Avery held Alice's hand. "In just a few months, we've been through so much. I just want you to be healthy and happy. You're all I have."
Avery used to be such a strong person, but Alice was her soft spot.
