Chapter 474 Agree
Jagger was all in. He dug this gig. Helping folks was his jam.
His old man was a doc, and since he was a kid, he looked up to him. Wanted to be a kickass doc too, easing folks' pain.
He was all about the job. But it had its downsides.
He had a crush, but Natalie? She wasn't feeling it.
Maybe they were never meant to be.
Jagger let out a heavy sigh, clenched his fists, and shot Leon a determined look. "Got it, Leon."
Leon gave a nod. Jagger was one of his top students, and he didn't want him screwing up over some girl drama. "Pack your stuff. I'll get your application in. With your resume and all, you'll be in the first batch. Probably heading out next Tuesday or Wednesday. Better let your folks know."
Jagger nodded and headed home for lunch.
He brought it up to his parents.
Thomas Kamel was buried in his newspaper. "My hospital's got the same program. Sent a few young docs. It's a solid training gig."
Audrey Fisher wasn't thrilled about Jagger being gone so long. "Eight months? That's forever."
Thomas shot back, "Don't be so short-sighted. Our boy's gonna level up."
Audrey asked, "Jagger, how's your department? Everything cool?"
Jagger was washing up and paused. "Yeah, all good."
Audrey was busy setting the table.
Thomas said, "What are you implying? You want something to go wrong?"
Jagger was still in the bathroom, scrubbing his hands.
Audrey put a bowl of soup on the table and shot Thomas a look. "You don't care about him at all."
Thomas defended himself, "I'm swamped with surgeries every day."
Audrey lowered her voice. "Heard from my card buddies that Traylor and Natalie had a blowout at the hospital yesterday."
Thomas put down his paper and adjusted his glasses. "What now?"
Audrey said, "Traylor's alright, but Jagger's all about Natalie."
Thomas said, "Jagger's got good taste. I back him. Traylor's nice and all, but Natalie's a better fit. Jagger was stoked when he was with her."
Audrey said, "Traylor made a scene at the hospital. Her mom's the deputy director, so she'll get a slap on the wrist. But it's messing with Jagger. Haven't you noticed he's been off lately?"
Thomas said, "You're overthinking it."
Audrey shot him a glare. "You just don't care enough about Jagger!"
Thomas sighed. "Fine, let's eat. I need a nap before my big surgery this afternoon."
Audrey said, "All you do is work. How's Jagger supposed to keep working with Traylor causing drama? I used to like Traylor, and her mom helped Jagger out. But now..."
Thomas gave Audrey a look, and she went quiet. They heard the bathroom door, and Jagger walked out. Audrey went to finish setting the table.
Jagger sat down. "Gotta head back to the hospital after lunch. I'm on duty tonight."
"Alright, I got surgery this afternoon too," Thomas said. "Got a date set? When you leaving?"
Jagger picked up his fork. "Leon said it'll be quick. Leaving next Tuesday or Wednesday."
Thomas nodded. "All the top docs are going. Training in Ameriland's a big deal. Their minimally invasive stuff is top-notch now. It's a win for the patients."
