Chapter 115 Fear of Instinct
The sight before him was akin to a thorn piercing his temples. He was at a loss, unable to comprehend the unfolding events. Yet, an undeniable discomfort gnawed at him, a mere result of seeing the two of them standing side by side.
Alice cast a sidelong glance at Natalie, understanding her silent plea. "Adrian, let's go inside," she suggested.
Adrian, however, didn't move. "Grandfather often mentioned Dr. Kamel before, saying that Dr. Kamel has excellent medical skills. Today, I finally have the chance to meet him and would like to ask some questions. How about you bring your 'girl-friend' along and join us for a meal, Dr. Kamel?"
The word "girlfriend" sent a shiver of fear through Natalie. She could discern the simmering anger in his tone, even without seeing his face.
"Well," Jagger thought for a moment and said, "to decline would be disrespectful."
Natalie watched the man's retreating figure, a peculiar sensation stirring within her heart. It was an instinctual urge to retreat, coupled with a surge of nervousness.
Upon the Phalaenopsis balcony, Natalie found herself unable to relax. Without even raising her gaze, she could feel the icy stare boring into her. Jagger, noticing her lack of appetite and her preoccupation with the rice in her bowl, frowned slightly. He placed a piece of rib on her plate. "Natalie, have some of this."
"Thank you," Natalie murmured, taking a bite of the rib. She felt the gaze upon her intensify, as if it could freeze her in place.
Suddenly, Alice let out an exclamation, "Oh!" The glass in front of Natalie was knocked over by Alice, and hot water splashed onto Natalie's leg. The glass shattered as it hit the ground.
Natalie felt a burning pain on her leg, even through the fabric of her clothes. She winced and quickly rose to her feet. Alice rushed over with a look of concern, offering to help clean up. "I'm sorry, Natalie. Are you okay?"
Natalie, aware of Alice's deliberate actions, evaded her hand and stood up. "I'm fine, I'll go to the restroom."
In the restroom, Natalie cleaned the water stains from her clothes. She looked at her reflection in the mirror and let out a heavy sigh. Alice was merely trying to embarrass her. Natalie could handle it, but she didn't want to cause any trouble for Jagger.
After freshening up, she exited the restroom and rounded a corner, only to be met with a pair of black shoes. Natalie halted abruptly, narrowly avoiding a collision with the person in front of her.
"Sorry," she looked up, her gaze meeting Adrian's cold, handsome face.
Upon seeing Adrian, Natalie instinctively retreated a step. He observed her defensive stance and smirked. "Afraid of me? Is that so?"
Natalie didn't understand her own reaction. It was purely instinctual. Adrian advanced towards her, and Natalie continued to retreat until her back hit the wall. Adrian leaned in, his voice dropping to a whisper. "Didn't you say you'd stay out of my sight from now on? Stay far away and never show up again?"
Natalie clenched her teeth. She had indeed said that. She genuinely believed she wouldn't cross paths with Adrian again.
The two were standing close, and Natalie looked up. The strands of her hair brushed against Adrian's chin. She could smell the faint scent of his cologne, mixed with a hint of nicotine. Her cheeks flushed, and she gritted her teeth. "Mr. Howard, please behave yourself!"
