Chapter 857 Public Relations Tactics

The third option was to clarify in a timely manner, saying it was fake, or that she was framed by a nemesis just like the rumors Heather heard before. This would garner sympathy from netizens.

Heather figured Rebecca would go with the third option. Otherwise, why would she put out such a smokescreen?

Rebecca's original brand, U&M, went from being just another brand to a trendy, light luxury label that socialites loved over the past decade.

Not too long ago, they had dropped a seasonal limited edition perfume called Muse's Kiss. It came in a light pink bottle and had this intoxicating scent that socialites went crazy for.

With rave reviews from celebs and nearly a hundred million bucks spent on marketing, the perfume had sold 8 million bottles in its first week, each going for $499. Now, it was completely sold out.

Right now, Rebecca was at U&M headquarters, scrambling to deal with this plagiarism mess.

This time, it was her own screw-up, letting the plagiarized work become the centerpiece of her new product launch. They'd already blown a ton of cash on marketing. U&M had been gearing up to announce a new spokesperson, Wendy, who was one of the guests at the banquet.

They planned to reveal Wendy as the new face of the brand at the socialite event.

But Wendy brought up terminating the contract.

Rebecca frowned, realizing Wendy had betrayed her in this mess.

Rebecca and Wendy had known each other forever, friends since they were kids. But there was always a bit of rivalry, even though they kept it civil in public. Rebecca went into business, while Wendy went into entertainment, taking very different paths.

Oh, and they were cousins.

The Lewis family and the Henderson family were related by distant blood.

They were about the same age, with Rebecca being a bit older.

When Rebecca picked Wendy as the spokesperson, it was because Wendy's image fit perfectly. U&M was all about youthfulness and versatility. Their designs were elegant and stylish, and their sportswear was trendy and cutting-edge. It was cool with a touch of elegance, just like Wendy.

Plus, Wendy's status made her a great fit for the role.

But out of nowhere, Wendy decided to back out and even talked about ending the contract!

One of the brand's new perfumes was already featured in Wendy's new variety show, and ending the contract now would leave Rebecca hanging.

Ainsley, Rebecca's assistant, stood by. "Ms. Henderson, what should we do?"

Rebecca nodded, "Then end the contract. From now on, there's no chance of working with Wendy again!"

Anisley replied promptly, "Got it, I'll handle it right away."

A few minutes later, Ainsley came back to Rebecca's office. "Announcing the spokesperson during the new product launch was supposed to create a lot of buzz. We already teased it once, letting everyone guess who the new face would be. Now, with this sudden change, I'm worried it will hurt the launch's visibility."

It was supposed to be a strong collaboration.

Now, with Wendy backing out and the plagiarism scandal, Rebecca couldn't help but sigh.

"I think we should look for a new spokesperson," Ainsley suggested. "There are plenty of suitable candidates in the entertainment industry. I've been following an actress who recently hit $1.6 billion at the box office during the Christmas season."
