Chapter 69 Putting an End to Her Hopes
Jagger, seeming to comprehend her internal musings, voiced his thoughts with a solemn tone, "Every profession deserves respect." Natalie cast a glance his way, her lips curving into a gentle smile. The group found themselves gathered around the card table, the air filled with casual banter and the soft rustle of cards. Tiffany Johnson, a renowned cardiothoracic surgeon, sauntered over to Traylor, her curiosity piqued. "Traylor, what has captured your attention so?" she inquired, "Are you searching for Dr. Kamel again?"Traylor's cheeks flushed a deep crimson as she bashfully lowered her gaze. "Oh, please stop teasing me," she pleaded.Tiffany chuckled, her eyes gleaming with amusement. " Traylor, your actions betray you. Each time Dr. Kamel leaves, your gaze follows him, then you lose focus on the cards or the melody. Do you really think we can't tell?"The room filled with laughter and teasing inquiries about Traylor's relationship with Dr. Kamel. Traylor's face turned a deeper shade of red. She appeared somewhat disheartened as she confessed, "He mentioned having a girlfriend. You all heard him earlier."The room fell silent, disbelief etched on their faces. "But how can Dr. Kamel have a girlfriend? I have a friend in his department, and there's been no talk of him having a girlfriend."
"He must have used it as an excuse to evade Ms. Kroger's relentless matchmaking attempts," someone suggested."Traylor, you and Dr. Kamel would make an excellent match, both in appearance and otherwise," another chimed in.Despite the teasing, Traylor managed a smile, attempting to redirect the conversation. "Let's return to our game," she suggested, her voice light.Just then, the door to the private room swung open, and a voice rang out, "Dr. Kamel is here. Who is this?" All eyes turned to Jagger, curiosity evident in their gazes.Natalie felt a wave of anxiety wash over her. Sensing her discomfort, Jagger took her hand, offering silent reassurance. He led Natalie inside, his gaze landing on Patricia Kroger, comfortably ensconced on the sofa. "Ms. Kroger, I'd like you to meet my girlfriend, Natalie."Patricia's gaze swept over Natalie, taking in her waitress attire. She appeared momentarily taken aback, then smiled, adjusting her glasses. "So, you've found a girlfriend and brought her here today! Had we not arranged this gathering, would you have kept her a secret?"Jagger introduced Natalie to his friends, and Natalie greeted everyone in return. Patricia's stern expression and commanding aura were intimidating, but Natalie managed a polite, "Ms. Kroger."Patricia responded with a curt nod. Many in the room took note of Natalie's uniform, speculating whether she was an employee. However, Jagger's presence made them hesitant to voice their curiosity. No one would have expected Jagger to date a waitress.Jagger, however, didn't shy away from the topic. "Natalie works here, so if you need anything, feel free to ask her."As Jagger spoke without hesitation, his colleagues accepted the situation. After all, profession and status were superficial; it was their loving relationship that truly mattered."Natalie, could you arrange a discount for us?" Traylor asked, attempting to lighten the mood.Natalie's response was a warm smile. "Of course."Traylor clenched her teeth in frustration, watching as Jagger held Natalie's hand, painfully aware that Natalie was just a server.Tiffany caught sight of Traylor's expression and softly murmured, "Traylor, Traylor."Suddenly, Traylor rose to her feet. Tiffany watched, making no move to stop her, as Traylor made her way towards Jagger and Natalie."Jagger," she called out.Jagger glanced at Traylor, understanding her unspoken thoughts. He had already rejected her once and had no desire to cause her further pain. The Kamel and Kroger families had a longstanding relationship, and Patricia had always hoped to pair him with Traylor. That was why Jagger had brought Natalie along, hoping to finally put an end to Traylor's lingering hopes.
