Chapter 88 Every Woman's Temptation
As their class concluded, Bella swiftly seized Natalie's arm. "Your attention seemed elsewhere during the lecture. Where are you rushing off to?" she inquired.
"Rundle Street," Natalie replied.
Bella's eyes lit up. "That's a happy coincidence. It's not often you willingly venture out for shopping. I'll accompany you."
Natalie parted her lips to clarify that she wasn't intending to shop, but she held back. She realized that today might end up fruitless, just like the previous times. She didn't want to sour her own spirits.
As they ambled past the library, Bella veered off to borrow a book, leaving Natalie lingering at the entrance.
Suddenly, the shrill screech of tires echoed through the air as a red sports car skidded to a halt not far from her.
Natalie instinctively raised her gaze and spotted a girl emerging from the passenger seat.
A crowd of students had already gathered around the library, their chatter growing louder as they began to discuss the unfolding scene.
"Look, it's Mr. Murphy and Tanya Lane."
"Did Mr. Murphy and Emily break up already?"
"I didn't expect him to move on so quickly, especially after he pursued Emily so ardently."
"He switches girlfriends faster than his attire. Ah, the life of the wealthy."
"Why the envy? With a car worth 1.6 million dollars, which woman could resist the temptation?"
"Shh, lower your voices, Emily is approaching!"
As they whispered amongst themselves, a woman in a pale purple dress descended the library steps. Emily was strikingly beautiful, the kind of delicate and fragile beauty that men found irresistible.
She neared the red sports car, her lips trembling and her eyes welling up with tears. "Daniel..."
Daniel, leaning casually against the car door, glanced at her and arched an eyebrow. "Oh, it's you. What's the matter?"
His nonchalant demeanor only deepened Emily's sense of injustice. "Daniel, are you truly ending things with me? You and Tanya..." Emily's voice broke, her pitiful state evoking sympathy from the onlookers.
Daniel, however, responded coldly, "Wasn't it you who suggested we break up?"
"I..." Emily was filled with regret. Her beauty had attracted many wealthy suitors at school, which had naturally inflated her pride and arrogance.
After dating Daniel, they had a quarrel. In a fit of anger, Emily had proposed a breakup, confident that she was irreplaceable in his heart. To her shock, he had agreed without hesitation and quickly found a new girlfriend.
Now, she was filled with remorse. After parting ways with Daniel, no one else had showered her with lavish gifts or chauffeured her in a sports car. Compared to Daniel's affluent background, the other wealthy young men seemed insignificant.
"Natalie!" Bella's voice rang out, snapping Natalie out of her reverie. Bella followed Natalie's gaze. "Isn't that Daniel with Emily? I heard Daniel is now with Tanya."
"Tanya?" Natalie pondered for a moment. That must be the woman who had just alighted from the car and entered the library.
Bella looked at her in surprise. "You didn't know? She's from the performing arts department. As for Daniel, he's quite the charmer. I don't think there's a single girl in this school he couldn't win over, except for you."
Natalie offered a small smile but remained silent. Daniel had probably shown interest in her before, but after discovering her status as a maid in the Cullen household, he must have abandoned any such thoughts, right?
"Alright, let's go!" Natalie didn't linger on the incident and pulled Bella away.
Not far off, Emily was still expressing her sorrow over parting with Daniel, while Daniel, seated in his car, stared intently at a figure reflected in his rearview mirror.
'Natalie...'
