Chapter 230 She Didn't Leave
Loren glanced at the sky. "Once the rain eases up, I'll get a helicopter to scan the area. It's on you for now, Mr. Johnson. Please find Mr. Howard."
Adrian was the future heir of the Howard Group. If he died here, the fallout would be catastrophic.
Jack frowned but nodded. "Got it."
Heading into the forest, Jack pulled out his phone. Before the signal cut out, he dialed. "Jamie, Adrian's in the forest too. He's been missing for five hours."
Jamie's deep voice came through. "I know it."
Word of Adrian and Natalie's disappearance had already spread through the hotel. If they weren't found by dawn, the news would go public.
The Howard Group would be in chaos.
With rain pouring down, Jack stared at the dark forest. "If Adrian dies, there's one less rival for you. Donte can't compete with you. Without Adrian, the Howard Group is yours."
Jack believed Donte was no match for Jamie. Only Adrian could rival him in tactics and ability.
After a long pause, Jamie replied, "I wouldn't stoop to that."
Jack asked, "I heard Adrian went into the forest to save a woman. Is she his fiancée?"
"No, her name's Natalie. She's interesting." Jamie's voice softened.
"Interesting, huh? First time I've never heard you describe a girl like that."
Adrian opened his eyes. He saw a faint firelight and heard water dripping. He tried to sit up but felt weak.
The snake venom was worse than he thought.
His lips were dry, his face flushed.
No one was around.
He struggled to prop himself up. It looked like he was in a cave, but the cave wasn't fully enclosed; rain leaked in from a few holes above.
The rain outside was heavy. He looked around, his pupils contracting.
Natalie wasn't there.
The air carried a faint trace of her scent. She had left.
Had she really left? Adrian felt a pang of loss and emptiness.
He clenched his arm and thought, 'Natalie has really left me alone.'
He let out a bitter laugh.
If she stayed, she'd be trapped here too.
There was no food or medicine, and it was cold and uncomfortable. There were poisonous snakes, plants, insects, and maybe even wild beasts.
Adrian lay back down, feeling weak. The light in his eyes dimmed.
Was he going to die here? He never thought he'd face this.
If not for saving Natalie, he wouldn't have been bitten. But she had left alone.
Adrian felt disappointment but no regret. He closed his eyes.
In his mind, he saw a pair of pure, clear eyes. Natalie had used those eyes to deceive him.
He didn't know how long it had passed.
Adrian was conscious but weak, and his body was hot. He listened to the rain. Suddenly, he heard hurried footsteps. Then he smelled a sweet, fresh scent mixed with rain.
A cold air rushed in, followed by Natalie's surprised and happy voice. "You're awake."
