Chapter 204 Slander
After three minutes, Daniel walked over, asking, "Natalie, you're back. I've been looking for you for a while. Why is your phone off?"
Natalie smiled faintly. "It probably ran out of battery."
Daniel glanced at the cards on the table and pulled out a chair to sit down. "Were you just playing cards?"
Natalie replied, "Just a little game."
Daniel asked, "What game?"
Before Natalie could answer, another girl spoke up, "Diana brought a deck of game cards. There was a pair of Ace of Hearts. Two people, whoever drew the Ace of Hearts had to kiss passionately for two minutes." The girl deliberately paused, glancing at Daniel repeatedly, her gaze finally resting on Daniel's handsome face, her cheeks slightly red. "In the end, it was Natalie and Adrian who drew the Ace of Hearts."
Daniel's hand holding the wine glass paused.
He was shocked to hear that and almost spat out his drink.
He thought, 'What, Adrian and Natalie?'
The girl continued, "Adrian chose to drink two bottles of wine, and that was the end of it."
Daniel finally sighed in relief, thinking, 'That makes sense. That’s something Adrian would do. I’m really overthinking it. Even if it was just a game, Adrian wouldn't do such a thing to Natalie; not to mention Adrian's fiancée Alice was still around.'
"Hey, did you hear? That woman is Natalie, the maid from Adrian's fiancée Alice's family."
"How can a maid sit with us?"
"This maid is really something. Look, she's sitting next to Daniel. Who knows what tricks she used to seduce Daniel."
"I don't know what Daniel sees in her. How could he be interested in a lowly maid?"
"You guys are really underestimating this maid." Sandra walked over and whispered, "She even tried to seduce Adrian."
"Really? Adrian is Alice's fiancé."
"Alice is too kind, keeping such a maid around."
"You don't know, this maid grew up with Alice. She's despicable and vain, and her private life is a mess."
"Oh my God."
"She's disgusting. Daniel must be fooled by her innocent appearance." A girl who had a crush on Daniel gripped her wine glass tightly.
"He's definitely fooled. Stephanie, if I were Daniel, I'd definitely like someone as gentle, elegant, and beautiful as you, not a lowly maid."
Stephanie Lewis's cheeks blushed slightly.
She thought the same.
Their discussion was not quiet. Natalie could hear it.
They didn't avoid her at all when speaking ill of her, as if they didn't care if she heard.
Instead, they seemed to take pleasure in discussing and slandering her, laughing together.
Daniel frowned. He stood up, ready to walk over; but Natalie stopped him and said, "Mr. Murphy, the steak is ready. This one's for you."
Daniel uttered, "Natalie, don't take what they said to heart."
Natalie took a bite of the steak, chewing carefully, seemingly unbothered. "I won't."
Seeing Natalie finish the steak in small bites, Daniel said, "Come on, I'll go with you over there. I'll grill some vegetables for you."
Stephanie watched with jealousy as Daniel rolled up his sleeves and grilled meat and vegetables for Natalie by the barbecue. She felt incredibly bitter inside. "I really don't know what's so good about this maid. She's a poor country girl who's never seen the world. Look at what she's wearing, just plain cheap stuff. How could Daniel be infatuated with this woman?"
One of Stephanie's friends stepped forward to comfort her, "Alright, Stephanie, don't be upset."
Stephanie's family was well-off, though not as prestigious as the Murphy or Howard families, she was still a socialite. She found it hard to accept that she couldn't compare to a maid in Daniel's eyes; so naturally, she was in a bad mood.
"I heard this maid even had an abortion before..."
"What? Really?"
Immediately, there were gasps of shock.
Instantly, they started discussing again, with their eyes occasionally glancing in Natalie's direction.
