Chapter 765 Only One Relative
Jagger took a beat before saying, "Unless Rosalie can promise she'll stick to her treatment and meds from now on. We don't want her back here with kidney issues again 'cause she skipped her meds. She can't handle another transplant; her body just won't take it."
Natalie nodded. "Got it. I'll have a serious chat with her. Thanks for all your help."
Jagger's eyes had this tiny, almost hidden bitter glimmer of smile. "Natalie, you and Rosalie got some beef?"
Jagger could tell Natalie had changed. Two years ago, Rosalie was her whole world. Now, she seemed distant, her eyes calm when she talked about Rosalie.
Natalie shook her head. "Just some small stuff. Thanks. I'll go talk to her and catch you later if I can."
Jagger nodded and stepped aside, watching Natalie leave.
His eyes stayed on her until she was out the door.
There was this faint, hard-to-catch scent in the air, stirring up Jagger's memories.
Outside the room, Heather watched Natalie walk over.
Natalie asked, "Rosalie awake?"
Heather nodded.
Natalie pushed the door open and walked in. Rosalie was lying there, looking even skinnier than before. The illness was consuming her, her face all sallow.
Young Rosalie was a beauty, full of life, smooth skin, gentle smile. No wonder Curtis liked her.
But later, she was always busy with chores, her hands rough and calloused. With no money for self-care, she just kept aging.
Rosalie was the same age as Emmett, but Emmett looked ten years younger.
Now, Rosalie looked burnt out, sallow and emaciated.
Natalie walked over, and Rosalie kept staring at her, eyes full of tears.
Seeing this, the caregiver left, leaving just Natalie and Rosalie.
Natalie didn't sit, just stood by the bed, looking at Rosalie. "Got something to say, say it. If you don't want treatment and just wanna die, I can respect that. If you stay quiet, I'll discharge you right now, no more treatment. Another transplant would be a waste."
Rosalie struggled to sit up and called out, "Natalie."
Even though their relationship was shattered, Rosalie still wanted to talk.
Natalie found the sound of her name from Rosalie grating.
Rosalie said, "Natalie, I didn't mean to make things hard for you."
Natalie shook her head. "Cut the crap. We're done. You should be the person I hate most. You took everything from me for your selfish reasons and wrecked my life. But why am I here? 'Cause I always thought you were my everything, my only family! Since you got sick, I've dreamed of making money to treat you. Since Dad and my brother left, I've dreamed of you getting better."
