Chapter 478 Willing

Right then, there was a knock on the door.

Bella strolled over and opened it. It was Marissa.

Marissa's eyes zeroed in on the pendant around Bella's neck. "Whoa, where'd you snag that? It's gorgeous."

Bella's cheeks turned a light shade of pink. "Austin gave it to me," she mumbled.

Marissa's eyebrows shot up. "Wait, you went to the Reynolds place today?"

"Yeah, I did." Bella plopped down on the couch, pulled a book out of her bag, and tossed it on the table.

Marissa saw the book and knew Bella had a blast with Austin. Bella might seem all bubbly, but she was a total bookworm. Despite her carefree vibe, she was super detail-oriented. She only had one close friend, Natalie, and usually spent her time messing with crystals and jewelry.

Cassidy had suddenly brought up this old marriage arrangement Brandon had set up over a decade ago, which neither she nor Caleb were thrilled about.

They only had one daughter.

And the Reynolds family? Total big shots, hard to get into. Especially Cassidy, who was a real powerhouse. Everyone knew she secretly ran the Reynolds show.

If Bella married into that family, she'd just be a pawn to shut people up.

No one wanted their daughter stuck in a dead-end like that. Everyone wanted their kid to find true love and live happily ever after.

Marissa had spent many nights praying and crying over it.

But seeing Bella smile more lately, Marissa felt a bit better.

Bella said, "Mom, I wanna marry Austin. I've made up my mind."

Marissa asked, "You sure about this?"

She gripped Bella's hand tight. "If you don't want to, you can bolt. Your dad and I will say you ran away. Cassidy might be pissed, but she wouldn't dare make a scene. We've thought it through. We've got enough money. We're not greedy; we just want you to be happy."

Bella's eyes filled with tears. She took a deep breath. "Mom, I've thought it through. I want to marry Austin. Even if things get tough, I want to be with him. Even if he's not in great health, I want to take care of him. I've known him for half a month, and he's not what I expected. Maybe it's not so bad."

"Bella." Marissa's eyes got all misty.

Bella hugged Marissa tight. "Mom, I'm not feeling wronged. I used to think with so many guys chasing me, I had high standards. I wanted to marry someone I liked. But now, I feel like I've found him. Austin and I like the same books, the same authors. We watched a movie today, and it was totally our style."

Marissa was a bit skeptical, worried Bella was just saying this to make her feel better. "Really?"

"Really," Bella said, handing over the book. "This is the book I brought today. He likes it too. We could spend an entire afternoon talking about books and movies. Time just flies when I'm with him. I can't help but watch him when he talks."

Bella thought, 'I think this is what liking someone feels like.'

Marissa looked at Bella, who seemed genuine. "Then your father and I can relax."

Bella gently touched the pendant on her neck. That afternoon, she had gone to a jewelry factory, picked out a piece of sapphire, and made a blue pendant just like the amethyst one she had.

Next time she saw Austin, she'd give it to him.

She wanted to tell Cassidy she was ready to marry into the Reynolds family.
