Chapter 99 Sakura Fragrance

Natalie's gaze lifted, locking with the eyes of the man who stood in the doorway. His footing was unsteady, his breaths labored and ragged. Recognition flashed in her eyes as she identified him, "Mr. Lawson?"

Jamie's world was a blur. He had managed to incapacitate Rachel, but his strength was rapidly waning. He staggered out, unable to maintain his composure any longer. He was unsure of who his assailant was, but he was certain he couldn't allow their scheme to succeed. His initial plan had been to retreat to the third floor, to find sanctuary in an empty room and await help. However, he hadn't anticipated encountering someone in the room.

His voice was a raspy whisper, "Who is it?"

Natalie rose to her feet, her eyes filled with confusion as she studied the man before her. "Mr. Lawson," she echoed. Jamie's handsome features were flushed, veins standing out starkly on his forehead as if he were straining against some internal torment. Her instincts kicked in, "Are you sick? Should I summon a doctor?"

The only response was the soft click of the door closing behind him.

Jamie moved towards Natalie, his eyes bloodshot and fixated on her.

A shiver of apprehension ran down Natalie's spine. She took a step back, her retreat halted by the couch behind her, onto which she stumbled. "Mr. Lawson, what's wrong with you?"

Jamie, devoid of his usual cane, limped towards her. His suit was disheveled, his bloodshot eyes locked onto Natalie with the intensity of a predator zeroing in on its prey.

Despite her innocence, Natalie sensed the danger. She quickly rose to her feet, attempting to dart towards the door, but Jamie's strong grip encircled her waist, flinging her back onto the couch. His body, feverish and hot, pressed against hers, and the realization hit her.

He was burning up.

His entire body radiated heat, as if engulfed in flames.

"Let go...let go of me! Mr. Lawson, Mr. Lawson!!" Fear gripped Natalie. She screamed his name, "Jamie, Jamie, let me call a doctor for you. My friend is a doctor! I can call for help!"

Her struggle was fierce, tears streaming down her face.

Her tears splashed onto his hand, causing Jamie to momentarily pause.

His gaze fell on the woman beneath him, his pupils dilated, a fleeting moment of lucidity breaking through.

Gritting his teeth, he forced himself to his feet. His voice was a harsh command, "Get out!"

Natalie, trembling, scrambled to her feet, ready to make a swift exit. But her movement halted as she watched Jamie snatch a fruit knife from the table, slashing his own arm with a fierce determination.

The blade glinted ominously before Natalie.

Her eyes widened in horror. "Mr. Lawson!"

Crimson blood flowed freely from Jamie's self-inflicted wound, the intense pain serving to suppress his body's erratic desires and chaotic mind, snapping him back to reality.

He collapsed onto the carpet, leaning heavily against the couch, gasping for breath.

Natalie could only stare at the scene unfolding before her.

She remained silent for a moment, then turned and fled.

Jamie lay on the carpet, his breaths coming in ragged gasps.

His mind raced, replaying the events. 'The only thing I had come into contact with was the champagne delivered by the waiter. Could someone have spiked the champagne?

'What is their purpose?

'Why was Rachel in the same room as me?

'Did Rachel also get drugged?'
