Chapter 475 A Lie Destroyed Reality
Jagger gave a nod, but inside, he was all kinds of mixed up.
He wondered if Natalie would even care a little bit if she knew he was bouncing.
Lately, Bella had been hanging out at the Reynolds' place a lot.
She even knew every nook and cranny in their yard by now.
That afternoon, Bella showed up at the Reynolds' with a book. She'd been there so much lately that she was tight with the staff. There were over twenty of them, and she could even name a few.
She headed up to the third floor.
Brian was doing his usual door-guarding thing.
When he saw Bella, he just gave her a nod and went inside to let Austin know she was there.
Bella was still kinda scared of Brian; that scar on his face was no joke.
She clutched her book tight. Brian came back out and told her, "Mr. Reynolds wants you to come in, but Ms. Swan, don't stay too long. He needs to rest; he's not feeling great today."
Bella frowned. "What's up with him? Is he sick?"
Brian didn't sugarcoat it. "Last night, Mr. Reynolds wasn't feeling well. We got a doctor, and he's better now, but he's still a bit dizzy and low on energy."
Bella pushed the door open and walked in.
The room was dim, curtains drawn.
Austin was in light gray PJs, chilling on the sofa, watching a movie.
The projector was flashing blue light.
A huge screen was showing the film.
Bella walked over, and Austin smiled at her. "Take a seat."
Bella glanced at the screen and nailed the movie title, "Driven Hunt."
Austin raised an eyebrow. In the dim light, his face looked almost see-through, his delicate and handsome features tinged with a pale fragility.
"You know it?" He sounded a bit surprised.
Bella plopped down on the sofa next to him. "Yeah, I've seen it. It's a famous Warshore flick, one of my faves."
She looked at the screen, where the protagonist's dog was getting killed, and the girl's innocent expression. She softly said, "A lie destroyed reality."
Austin asked, "Why'd you come in the afternoon today?"
Bella replied, "I was at the library with friends, working on a paper this morning."
Austin asked, "Graduating soon?"
Bella nodded. "Here's your book back."
Austin took it and placed it on the coffee table. "Want something to drink? Juice, coffee, or?"
"I can get it myself." Bella poured a glass of water and handed one to Austin. "Water's the best drink."
Austin smiled, his face like a calm lake with a gentle breeze, sparkling with countless stars in his eyes. Bella blushed, her cheeks heating up, and she tried hard to focus back on the movie.
But the faint minty scent in the air made her heart race.
She stayed in the room for an hour, watching "Driven Hunt" and other short films with Austin. She realized they had similar tastes, which made her heart race, and Austin felt the same. It was rare for him to find someone he could vibe with.
As she was about to leave, she remembered what Brian had said.
Bella said, "You should rest now."
Austin asked, "Did Brian tell you again?"
Bella replied, "Brian cares about you."
Austin's eyes showed a hint of sadness. He knew his illness was a one-way street. Situations like this would happen more often. His breathing would get weaker, and his heart and lungs would eventually give out.
In the past, he would laugh it off.
But now, he could smell the faint scent of oranges in the air.
He wanted to stick around a bit longer.
He looked at the girl in front of him, wearing a pink and white checkered dress, her hair tied up high, exuding a sweet and pure youthful vibe. "Ms. Swan, I got something for you."
