Chapter 255 Stunt Double
After Nora's outburst, she finally asked, "What's the plan for tomorrow?"
"Morning's indoor scenes. At 11, we head to the Imperial Nightclub for the outdoor shots," her assistant, Benjamin Sterling, said, handing her the script. "You've got a scene with Alice where you slap her twice."
Nora's eyes lit up with a smile.
The next morning, they moved to the new location.
The crew had booked a private room at the Imperial Nightclub, and half the hallway was cordoned off.
Since it was daytime and the nightclub wasn't open yet, there were only a few waiters around.
Alice wasn't happy with the script. She questioned, "Why does she get to slap me? Who wrote this?"
Hearing that, Director Kevin Alexander started sweating. He didn't like Alice but couldn't afford to offend her. "Ms. Cullen, it's a dramatic scene; the audience will love it."
Nora, who had been working hard in the industry for seven years and finally landed a lead role, was annoyed by Alice, who had bought her way into the crew. "Ms. Cullen, actors need to be dedicated. Getting slapped is part of the job."
Kevin, worried they'd start arguing, quickly said, "We can use a stunt double. Ms. Cullen, we'll get a double for you."
Alice suddenly remembered Natalie. She stopped Kevin and said, "Find a waitress named Natalie to be my double."
Kevin was surprised by the request but pleased to avoid more arguments. He sent an assistant to find Natalie.
In the wine cellar, Natalie was tallying wine sales with the manager when a staff member approached. "Natalie, I'll take over. Someone's looking for you."
Natalie handed over the list and walked out, seeing someone in a "Happiness Like a Song" crew shirt. The person looked stunned. "You look just like her."
Natalie was puzzled. "You're looking for me?" She knew a film crew had rented the nightclub for the day.
Rodolfo said, "You're Natalie, right? I'm Rodolfo Knight, the assistant director. We need you as a stunt double."
Natalie asked, "Me? You must be mistaken."
Rodolfo replied, "No mistake. Alice sent me."
Natalie frowned. "Alice is here?"
Rodolfo said, "She's our second female lead, and she's shooting today."
"I'm not going," Natalie said, turning to leave. Rodolfo followed. "We'll pay you double. Please consider it."
Natalie refused, "No thanks."
Rodolfo returned to Kevin and shook his head. Alice stood up. "I want Natalie as my double. I'll be in the trailer. Call me when it's sorted."
Alice wouldn't miss a chance to humiliate Natalie.
Kevin was frustrated. 'Why is Alice being so difficult?'
Nora also stood up. "Call me when it's sorted."
Rodolfo tried several times to find Natalie but failed. Kevin decided to go himself. He called the manager, Melody, who was surprised to hear his request. "You want Natalie as a stunt double?"
Kevin said, "Melody, we're old friends. Help me out."
Melody and Kevin came from the same small town. She didn't refuse outright. "I'll ask Natalie."
Kevin's budget was tight, and reshooting would cost a lot. He said, "How about this, Melody? Have Natalie come to your office, and I'll talk to her."
Melody nodded. "Alright."
