Chapter 1335 The Last Phone Call
"I'm in Emberfall City. I don't even know how I got here, and Rachel isn't with me," Beatrix's voice trembled on the other end of the line.
Natalie quickly reassured her, "Don't freak out. Heather and I will be there as soon as we can."
Emberfall City was at least a four-hour drive from Suncrest City.
Lloyd drove as fast as he could. It was already early morning, and there weren't many cars on the highway. They reached the Emberfall City police station in about three and a half hours.
After Beatrix made that call, a kind female officer stayed with her, comforting her. Beatrix held a cup of hot coffee, her body trembling. When she saw Natalie and Heather arrive, she couldn't hold back her tears any longer.
"I thought I'd never see you guys again."
Natalie and Heather rushed over and hugged Beatrix tightly.
Beatrix cried for a while before she finally calmed down.
Meanwhile, Adrian was working with the police to investigate the kidnapping.
When the police learned that Adrian's sister had also been taken, they immediately formed a task force with the Suncrest City police to investigate the case together.
In the car, Beatrix carefully recounted, "Rachel and I were just walking around the market. My phone went missing, probably stolen because the market was so crowded. Rachel's phone was almost dead after a long day, so we decided to find a place to rest. Rachel said she felt dizzy, so I helped her to a nearby bench. Suddenly, I felt dizzy too, and then we both blacked out."
"When I woke up, our hands were tied behind our backs in a warehouse. Rachel and I realized we were in danger. My phone was gone, but Rachel's phone still had a bit of battery left. She made a call."
Adrian asked, "Who did she call?"
Beatrix shook her head. "I don't remember exactly, but I think the person's name was Jamie."
"Jamie? How could it be him?" Adrian's eyes narrowed.
Natalie said, "Rachel has liked Jamie for years. With her phone about to die, she chose to call him. I've been in a similar situation before, and in that moment, all I wanted was to hear his voice."
In that instant, she deeply understood Rachel.
Adrian seemed stunned, unable to comprehend what Natalie was saying, let alone accept that Rachel liked that jerk Jamie.
He remained silent.
Natalie hugged Beatrix. "So, how did you and Rachel get separated?"
"Those people took photos of me. I figured out they were pricing us—higher prices for the prettier ones, lower for the others. Rachel is very beautiful, and her photo was quickly chosen by someone. She was taken away. I was left behind."
"There were four other girls in that warehouse. They only gave us two packs of milk a day, just enough to keep us alive but too weak to escape. Yesterday, two people came and took me away. They blindfolded me and put me on a boat. It was a five or six-hour trip on a medium-sized boat. When we reached the shore, they... let me go."
