Chapter 747 Lost in His Warmth
Natalie grabbed Adrian's waist. "Why didn't you tell me? I thought you were bailing on me."
"Sorry, won't happen again." Adrian mumbled, planting a kiss on her hair.
It all went down so fast. Adrian got a call, rushed to the Howard Mansion, hit up Ruben's study, and when he came back down, Curtis and Emmett were already there. They had to hash things out in the living room. Adrian left his phone upstairs, so he missed Natalie's calls.
Adrian's voice was all low and raspy. "Had a little hiccup at home, but it's sorted now."
He reached out, his long fingers brushing against Natalie's soft cheek. Her skin was smooth like fine porcelain, and she seemed to have put on a bit of weight from chilling at home. When Adrian pinched her cheek, it felt like jelly, stopping his fingers to let go. "Let's go."
Adrian didn't want to mention Alice's pregnancy. He didn't want to mess with Natalie's mood.
Sure, he couldn't keep it under wraps forever, but at least for now.
Natalie looked down, her long lashes fluttering. "Are we still going?"
"Why not? It's only been two hours." Adrian wrapped his arms around her waist and led her to the bedroom. Seeing her open suitcase and clothes scattered on the bed, he started packing them neatly. "Need anything else?"
Natalie shook her head.
"If we need anything, we'll grab it later," Adrian said.
Natalie had just one suitcase. Adrian's stuff was already in the car. As they were about to leave, she remembered the box of fruit she had cut. She grabbed a bag, packed the fruit, locked the door, and caught up with Adrian.
They were off to Rosewood.
Originally, they planned to take the high-speed train. But since Adrian was two hours late, they missed the morning train and had to wait for the afternoon one, Adrian decided to drive instead. It was a four-hour trip.
Natalie sat in the car. "Did you really finish everything? If you have stuff to do, you don't have to come."
Adrian, being the CEO of the Howard Group, had a ton on his plate.
"Yeah, it's all good." Adrian held her hand. "This week, I'm all yours."
Natalie's eyes flickered. She glanced at Adrian as they entered a tunnel. His face darkened, his sharp features dimmed. He squeezed her hand for a moment before letting go to focus on driving. When they exited the tunnel and the light returned, she looked at him again.
Natalie couldn't figure Adrian out. 'Does he like me, or am I just dreaming?'
She was sure he had feelings for her, but they were hazy, like mist—impossible to grasp. She wasn't his one and only.
But she was hooked on the warmth giving off when he hugged her, lost in it.
She didn't dare shatter the illusion. For two years, she never asked if he liked her.
She never brought up Alice in front of him.
She was scared that the truth would break her.
She wouldn't even have the space to lie to herself.
Adrian drove onto the highway, the car gliding smoothly. The road was clear. Natalie adjusted her seat, then remembered the box of fruit. She had cut it in the morning, thinking they wouldn't be going to Rosewood today.
