Chapter 236 Framing

Alice didn't flinch. "Behave and keep quiet, and your sick mom stays alive. Listen to me, and she'll suffer less."

The doctor checked Adrian over, offering a few words of advice, and then he got out of bed, taking a few steps to acclimate himself. His high fever had subsided, leaving behind a low one; aside from the weakness in his right hand, he was in decent shape.

"Where's the woman who came with me?" Adrian asked.

The doctor replied, "Ms. Teeger? She's in room 502. She's fine, just some scrapes and a sprained ankle that'll heal in two weeks."

Adrian headed to room 502 and saw Brice nearby. "Why are you here? Didn't I tell you to take Alice home?"

Brice said, "Ms. Cullen wanted to check on Natalie."

Inside, Alice heard the noise and quickly slapped herself, then sat on the floor, screaming, "Ah!"

Adrian rushed in and saw Alice on the floor with a slap mark on her face. Natalie looked shocked.

"It hurts so much; my stomach hurts," Alice screamed. "Baby, baby, please be okay."

Adrian picked her up. "Alice, are you okay?"

Alice grabbed his hand, wincing in pain. "It's not Natalie's fault. I came to thank her for finding the rescue team. I said I misunderstood her, but she got angry and tried to hurt the baby..."

"Our baby..." Alice's face went pale, and she fainted.

Adrian glared at Natalie. "What are you trying to do? Pray Alice and the baby are okay!" He carried Alice out.

Natalie wore a wry smile, thinking, 'Alice has a good plan, even faking this, huh?'

Natalie didn't shift in the bed. She remembered Adrian's reaction; he really cared about Alice and the baby.

In the afternoon, Natalie told the nurse, "I want to be discharged."

The nurse said, "Now? We recommend two more days of rest."

Natalie had many injuries, the worst being her ankle. "No need," she insisted.

"Alright, I'll process your discharge papers," the nurse said.

Half an hour later, Natalie was dressed and ready to leave. At the door, she saw Adrian approaching. She raised an eyebrow, surprised.

"Leaving?" Adrian's eyes darkened. "Alice is in the operating room, and you have the nerve to leave?"

Natalie was shocked, thinking, 'Operating room? I didn't touch Alice at all. After Alice slapped herself, I barely moved. How could she end up in surgery?'

She crossed her arms, asking, "Mr. Howard, do you really think I slapped Alice? Why would I?"

Adrian asked, "If it wasn't you, did she slap herself?"
