Chapter 231 The Rescue
Adrian jolted awake, disbelief flashing in his eyes.
He stared as Natalie, drenched from head to toe, entered the cave. Her eyes sparkled like the night sky, and her clothes clung to her, soaked through. Her long hair was plastered against her neck, raindrops trickling down her pale face.
She wiped her hands, smiled at Adrian, and touched his forehead.
Her hand was cold.
Adrian's was burning hot.
Her touch made him shiver.
"You, you didn't..." Adrian stammered.
Natalie held some herbs. "You have a high fever. I went out to get these. They should help."
She waved the herbs, looking pleased.
Adrian's eyes flickered; he pressed his lips together.
He swallowed and said coldly, "You could have left."
Natalie looked at him. "Leave? Where would I go? You're here."
After a pause, she added more firewood, warming the cave.
"Did you think I left?" she asked.
Adrian didn't answer and closed his eyes.
Natalie found some tools and crushed the herbs, applying the paste to Adrian's hand. "You saved my life, so I'm saving yours. We're even now." As she worked, she noticed a cut on the palm of his other hand, concealed under a flesh-colored bandage, making it hard to see.
His hand was fine last night when they played Truth or Dare on the beach.
Without thinking, Natalie tore off the bandage. The wound looked bad, soaked from the rain. She frowned. "How did this happen? It wasn't there last night."
"You remember clearly, do you?" Adrian said casually. "You tried to jump into the sea last night, and I saved you. That's twice now, Natalie. You owe me twice!"
Natalie muttered, "Who tried to kill themselves?" She was too drunk to remember much, and figured she'd just let Adrian think whatever he wanted.
"You took advantage of me being drunk and bullied me!" she accused.
Adrian opened his eyes. "Bullied? How? Didn't you enjoy it? It was exhausting for me. Didn't you have a good time?"
Natalie gritted her teeth.
She thought, 'Adrian is just getting better, and now here he is, bickering with me! Forget it. No point arguing. The priority is finding a way out.'
After changing Adrian's bandage, Natalie glanced outside. The rain was letting up.
They had to wait for it to stop to figure out an escape.
Natalie returned to the cave. Her clothes were sticky and cold. After a moment, she took off her shirt, leaving only a tank top.
"By the way, that yellow dress is in my bedroom. I'll wash it and return it," she said.
Adrian said casually, "If you don't like it, just throw it away."
He noticed a petal-shaped birthmark on her back, red and the size of a fingernail. His mind wandered to those indecent photos and the info about Natalie.
The woman in the photos had her back exposed with several men. Though the face wasn't clear, the body shape matched Natalie.
But the woman in the photos didn't have a birthmark.
Adrian's eyes narrowed.
He thought, 'But Natalie admitted she's had abortions and several boyfriends. Her personal life is messy. So, what's really going on here?'
