Chapter 419 He Actually Came
"No," Natalie asked softly, "What's up?"
"I was just thinking...maybe I'm overthinking it. I heard about Alice being hospitalized. Karen is her agent and now has no other artists to manage. I gave you the lead role in this film, but you chose a supporting role instead. Did I mess up?"
Mindy's words were pretty careful, but Natalie got the hint.
Natalie said, "Mindy, you think that since Alice is in the hospital and Karen's got no one to manage, she might come to me."
Mindy said, "Totally."
Natalie smiled. "I picked the supporting role 'cause I think the character's cool and fits me. Plus, I'm just starting out in acting. I like to take it slow and not rely on my background to pick roles randomly. You know this about me. I only go for roles that suit me. I couldn't handle the lead in this film, so I passed. It's not 'cause I want to pick Karen."
Mindy sighed in relief. "I'm glad to hear that."
Natalie said, "Mindy, I've always enjoyed working with you. I trust you a lot."
"Alright, I won't keep you any longer. Let's grab dinner this weekend if you're free." Mindy hung up and let out a long sigh of relief. After all, Natalie had Adrian backing her. Not many people knew this, but Mindy was one of the few who did.
Natalie seemed gentle and low-key, but she was sharp and knew exactly what she wanted. Her recent words had put Mindy at ease, making her realize she might have been overthinking.
But Mindy couldn't help but think more about it.
There were two female artists tied to Adrian: his fiancée Alice, who picked Karen, and his lover Natalie.
It was clear Adrian cared more about Natalie. And Natalie chose Mindy.
Now, with Alice suddenly in the hospital and multiple fractures needing at least half a year to heal, the engagement situation between the Cullen family and the Howard family was even more chaotic, a tangled mess known only to those within their circles, but the public was buzzing with speculation.
Mindy had to keep an eye on things.
Karen was also super anxious.
If something happened to Alice, Karen would lose her biggest asset. Dynamic Entertainment's resources would naturally shift towards Natalie. Mindy feared that Karen might try to win over Natalie. Plus, Natalie had turned down the resources Mindy had picked for her and instead asked for a supporting role, which made Mindy overthink.
However, Natalie's gentle yet firm response eased Mindy's worries, putting her at ease.
Natalie was no pushover.
Ever since Mindy noticed that Natalie had a face similar to Alice's and was always by Adrian's side, she knew that Natalie was definitely not as gentle and serene as she seemed.
At 6:50 PM, a black Maybach cruised down the street. Adrian glanced at the address Brice had sent and turned on the GPS to navigate.
He soon arrived at the set. He took out his phone, thinking about calling Natalie to let her know he was there, but then decided to surprise her. He wanted to see her in action.
There were quite a few people around the library, but they were all blocked by the crew's staff. Entry required a work permit. Adrian made a call and waited at the entrance for about two minutes before a guy in crew attire walked over, sweating bullets. After all, no one expected someone as important as Adrian to show up. "Mr. Howard, I had no idea you were coming. If you had told us in advance, I would've prepared. Sorry to keep you waiting."
Adrian glanced at the time. "It's already 7 o'clock. Haven't they wrapped up shooting yet?"
The guy was Gavin Allen, a VP at Dynamic Entertainment. He rarely got to meet Adrian. This was his first time seeing Adrian, and he was super nervous, not knowing if he had messed up. This film wasn't a major investment, not a top-tier production. Why would someone like Adrian show up?
