Chapter 222 Go on With Him
Ashley yanked Natalie to a stop and went to adjust the camera. Colby glanced at Adrian, who had been chatting nonstop until Natalie showed up. Colby knew what was up. He and Rachel flanked Adrian, but Colby moved to Rachel's side, leaving Adrian's other side vacant.
Natalie stood next to Adrian, catching a glimpse of his sharp jawline.
Ashley returned, posed next to Natalie, and struck a pose. Natalie flashed a V sign. The camera clicked, capturing the moment.
Ashley checked the photo. "Not bad. I'll get these developed. I'll send you all a digital copy later."
Ashley adjusted the camera again, surprised to see Adrian actually smiling. That was rare.
"Adrian, where are you guys planning to go?" Ashley asked.
Adrian stayed silent, so Colby answered, "We're planning to explore deeper. There are lots of places to check out. We went east and almost hit the fence, but Rachel got tired, so we came back. Adrian and I didn't get to see much."
Rachel was curious but couldn't handle the long walk and the bugs. Her interest faded quickly.
But now, with Natalie and Ashley around, Rachel's interest was piqued again. "It's not funny here, and there are bugs everywhere. Look at my arms."
Ashley chimed in with a few words.
Natalie walked ahead, with Colby and Rachel bickering behind her, adding some life to the quiet atmosphere.
As they walked, Natalie didn't notice a branch in front of her and almost tripped. A hand circled her waist and pulled her back. She stumbled and bumped into something hard.
She caught a faint scent of mint mixed with tobacco. In the forest, it was distinct yet familiar.
Natalie's face turned red. The scent was the same as the one on the bathrobe she wore that morning. She realized it was Adrian's.
Colby and Rachel were still bickering. Rachel rolled her eyes and ignored him, taking photos with Ashley using various filters. Colby, seeing Rachel wasn't talking to him anymore, decided to find Adrian. He walked a few steps and saw Adrian holding Natalie's waist.
He smirked and coughed loudly.
Adrian let her go, and Natalie adjusted her clothes. "Thank you, Mr. Howard."
Colby walked over and elbowed Adrian. "Adrian, did I interrupt you?"
Adrian shot him a cold look, and Colby immediately stepped back. "Adrian, I get it. I'll stay far away from you two. You guys continue."
Suddenly, Ashley screamed from behind.
Colby quickly turned around. "What happened?"
Adrian and Natalie also stopped and quickly walked back.
Ashley was clutching her ankle, her face showing pain, with Rachel supporting her.
Colby, being a doctor, walked over in a few steps. "What happened?"
He bent down to check Ashley's injury.
Rachel said, "A bug crawled over and scared us. Ashley twisted her ankle while stepping back."
Ashley bit her lip, and her face was pale. "It hurts so much."
Colby rolled up Ashley's pant leg to check the injury. Her ankle hadn't started to swell yet, but she couldn't walk even with Colby and Rachel's support.
Ashley felt a buzzing in her ears from the pain.
Colby pinched her ankle, and Ashley screamed. He frowned and looked at Adrian. "It's a sprain. She needs to rest."
Luckily, they had a first aid kit with medication for injuries. Colby sprayed some anti-inflammatory and swelling medicine on Ashley's ankle and then bent down to carry her on his back.
They were about to head back when Colby said, "Rachel, you didn't want to keep walking, right? You can come back with me. Adrian, Natalie, you two can go on."
