Natalie grinned and nodded.
Lately, Mindy had been all about Dynamic Entertainment.
Lucas and Herman was nowhere to be found.
Mindy figured they were laying low to dodge any screw-ups. Only Finnian was hanging around the office.
Mindy got along with Finnian, but they weren't close.
At Dynamic Entertainment, Mindy was tighter with Herman than with Finnian.
Word on the street was that Finnian was getting the boot, and Mindy was next in line for the VP gig.
Morning rolled around, and there was a knock on Mindy's office door.
It was one of her third-tier actresses.
Clara Rodriguez strolled in, scoped the place out to make sure they were alone, and shut the door.
Clara, beamed, "Mindy, I was out shopping the other day and found this pendant. It's so you. Check it out."
It was the latest BVLGARI piece, worth over fifty grand.
Mindy gave it a quick look. "Whoa, that's pricey. I can't take that."
"Mindy, it's just a little something to show my appreciation," Clara said, moving to put it on Mindy. Mindy's neck was bare, and the necklace looked perfect on her.
Clara grabbed a mirror. "Mindy, look, isn't it awesome? This kind of classy pendant doesn't suit me, but it's made for you."
Giving gifts to agents on the down-low was pretty standard in the biz.
Top agents like Mindy had a bunch of actresses and actors to manage, and resources didn't always get spread out evenly.
A little gift here and there could score better gigs.
Clara made bank every year from live-streaming sales and web dramas. A fifty grand pendant was no biggie. "Mindy, I heard Legends of Lumina is starting up. Think I could snag the second female lead?"
Clara had been in a bunch of dramas, especially historical ones, impressing the audience with her usual villian roles.
The second female lead in Legends of Lumina was a sweet, fairy-like character, perfect for Clara to switch up her impression on the audience. The production had a huge budget, and the lead actress was supposed to be Wendy. Being the second lead in such a big deal was a golden ticket, with guaranteed ratings and buzz. It was gonna be a hit.
But the role was way different from Clara's usual gigs, and she was worried she wouldn't get it.
Mindy said, "I can set up an audition for you. Give it a shot."
Clara begged, "Mindy, everyone knows it's your call. Please, help me out."
Mindy replied, "Even though our company is producing this, all the main roles need auditions." Mindy liked the necklace and figured it was better to give the role to one of her own actresses than let Karen or Lydia's snag it.
Clara said, "Ms. Bell, you're about to be VP. When you say jump, who wouldn't?"
Being called "Vice President" hit Mindy right in the feels. She beamed. But she still said, "What are you talking about? It's not a done deal."
Clara buttered her up, "Everyone at Dynamic Entertainment Media knows the VP spot is yours. Karen and Lydia don't stand a chance. You've got the experience and the wins."
Mindy smiled, "You're right. Okay, I'll talk to the director and get you the part."
Clara was thrilled. "Thank you, Mindy, I mean, Ms. Bell."
