Chapter 053 His Wrath
As dusk fell, her pitiful demeanor stirred a sense of compassion within him. Just as he was on the brink of relenting, she pulled a ruse, feigning departure. His anger flared.
"Stop," he demanded, his voice icy.
Natalie, however, was unable to comply. As she neared the yard's boundary, a muscular arm coiled around her waist. She stumbled backward, colliding with his sturdy torso.
"Release me!"
Overwhelmed by fear, Natalie thrashed about, but Adrian effortlessly hoisted her into his arms. He strode towards the bedroom, unceremoniously depositing her onto the bed. Natalie was feeble and defenseless. After the abrupt landing, she mustered her strength to prop herself up, gradually assuming a sitting position.
Adrian's gaze fell on the back of her hand, noticing the evidence of her forcefully removing her IV, nearly rupturing her veins in the process. More than half of the fluid still lingered in the IV bag perched next to the bed...
His eyes darkened.
"Natalie, your strategies are so rudimentary," he chided, his fingers firmly grasping her chin. "I instructed you to leave, yet you refused. You parade before me, attempting to be struck by my vehicle, and now this ploy to bewilder me. Very well, you shall receive what you desire..."
As if entranced, he leaned in, planting a fierce kiss on her lips, his touch harsh. Natalie fought back, tears cascading down her cheeks. Her cries were muffled by his assertive actions. Her resistance appeared futile.
She was engulfed by Adrian's familiar aroma.
She thought of their unborn child.
Just the previous day, they had suffered the loss of their baby.
Rosalie was conspicuously absent...
Tears continued to fall.
They entwined in her lengthy tresses.
They saturated the silver-gray pillowcase...
Adrian felt the cold tears on Natalie's face and released her. She drew in a ragged breath, her face glistening with her tears. Her clear eyes were tinged red, as if voicing her grievances.
Adrian gently wiped the tears from the corners of her eyes.
"I am aware of your loathing for me, your desire to avoid me," Natalie managed to utter. "Mr. Howard, you can rest assured. I will no longer present myself before you. I will not attempt to entice you, as you have accused... I am merely a humble maid, unworthy of standing beside someone as distinguished as you. I will cease to dream. Please, release me..."
Adrian observed Natalie, an inexplicable irritation gnawing at him.
He let her go and rose to his feet. She shivered uncontrollably, as if he was a monstrous creature.
"So, you wish to leave, huh?" He scoffed, "You're right, you are a lowly woman. You repulse me. If you desire to leave, do so come morning. I have no interest in dealing with any complications that may arise from your departure!"
With that, Adrian pivoted and stormed out, the door slamming shut behind him.
Natalie huddled under the covers, her sobs echoing in the silent room.
In the study.
Adrian vented his frustration, scattering the papers strewn across the desk.
