Chapter 1418 The Wounds Deep in the Heart
At this moment, Melissa spoke honestly.
"Dad, I don't like Natalie," she said. "I don't want Natalie's presence to ruin my son. You might be surprised, but Daniel likes Natalie. I don't want my son to get hurt. Because of Natalie's existence, my son has been resistant to starting a family and still refuses to get married."
Ruben hadn't expected that his grandson also liked Natalie.
He frowned. "Why didn't you tell me about this earlier?"
"Telling you wouldn't have helped. Daniel is very stubborn. Even now that Natalie is married, he still hasn't moved on from his feelings. I only have one son, Daniel. I'm scared. I don't want one Natalie to destroy the Howard family."
Ruben frowned. "I understand now. That girl Natalie is indeed very outstanding. I have a project in hand—let Daniel take charge of it. Send him to Lisbon to clear his head."
Melissa nodded. "I understand, Dad."
Ruben said, "Even if you don't like Natalie, she's now a member of the Howard family. Do you understand? From now on, don't lose your composure in front of the younger generation."
"Yes."
In the living room.
Claire still hadn't recovered from her shock and complicated feelings.
Joe said somewhat apologetically, "Natalie, get some good rest. What just happened was all a misunderstanding."
Natalie nodded and said politely, "Dad, Mom, I'll be going now."
The car drove along the road.
Streetlights flickered on and off.
Natalie and Adrian didn't speak the whole way.
She bit her lip and looked up at Adrian's face. His profile was cold and stern, showing no other emotions, yet the feelings he was giving off were so obvious—so complex that her heart couldn't settle.
He was angry.
Adrian suddenly stepped hard on the gas pedal.
The speed shot up.
Natalie's face turned slightly pale.
Suddenly at an intersection, the man slammed on the brakes.
The car skidded forward 20 feet before stopping.
Though Natalie was wearing her seatbelt, her body still lurched forward from the momentum.
Suddenly a warm hand blocked her forehead.
A dry palm pressed against her forehead.
Natalie looked up, still shaken, and saw the man's reddened eyes.
In those eyes was guilt that couldn't be dissolved.
Natalie opened her mouth. "Adrian..."
"So, that child..." Adrian's voice was extremely hoarse when he spoke. "Really, just gone like that."
Natalie's eyelashes trembled. "Yes."
Under the streetlight, Adrian's face flickered between light and shadow. Natalie looked at his face and heard him say hoarsely, "Did I know about it before?"
Natalie shook her head.
Adrian seemed to lose all his strength and lowered his head. He leaned back against the seat. The air was silent for dozens of seconds.
Cars passed by quietly beside them.
Another few minutes of long silence passed.
Adrian closed his eyes. "If it weren't for someone with bad intentions pulling out your medical records and giving them to Mom and Aunt, would you have never told me about the child we lost?"
This matter had always been a wound deep in Natalie's heart.
Festering more each day.
Back then, after that child left, she had nightmares every night.
It was because of this child that she could never forgive Avery again.
Even though that person was her biological mother.
