Chapter 86 Surveillance
Renee shrank back guiltily upon hearing "call the police." She sneered, "Natalie, do you think simply involving the police can prove your innocence? Since the ring was only stolen today, it must still be on the thief. I suggest searching their bodies and their residence thoroughly."
Before Curtis could speak, Avery quickly said, "Search! We must find it today!"
Following the order, Renee immediately went to search Marie and Natalie's bodies.
Natalie tightly clenched her fingers. She thought Renee would take the chance to humiliate her, but she didn't expect Renee to conduct such a casual search on her. Renee then said to Avery, "They don't have it on them. I'll go check their residence."
With Avery's nod of approval, Renee hurriedly made her way towards the ramshackle backyard of the villa.
She rummaged through Natalie's bag, emptying its contents. A pendant caught her attention, but she dismissed it, tossing it aside without a second thought. She then proceeded to unzip a hidden compartment within the bag.
Ten minutes later, Renee stood in the living room, brandishing an engagement ring with a threatening air. "I found this evidence in Natalie's bag. It's Ms. Cullen's engagement ring, and it was concealed in a hidden compartment of her bag!"
Alice took the ring, examining it closely. She turned to Natalie, her expression a mix of heartbreak and anger. "Natalie, our family has always treated you kindly. How could you betray us like this? Not only have you been deceitful, but you've also stolen Adrian and my engagement ring!"
Natalie stared in disbelief at the diamond ring produced from her bag. She had placed the pendant Bella had given her in her bag for safekeeping while cleaning the bedroom, and hadn't touched it since. She certainly hadn't seen this ring.
Her teeth clenched in frustration, her conviction that Alice was setting her up only strengthened. With a resolute voice, she countered, "I have no idea how the ring ended up in my bag, but I didn't take it. Perhaps Renee knows more about this than I do! You're accusing me of theft, but I accuse you, Renee, of deliberately framing me."
Renee bristled at the accusation. "You stole Ms. Cullen's ring, and now you dare to shift the blame onto me!"
"You're correct," Adrian, who had been silent until now, suddenly interjected. He studied the ring with a thoughtful gaze. "Natalie, do you have surveillance cameras at your residence?"
Natalie was taken aback. She didn't have surveillance cameras at her home, but she quickly grasped Adrian's underlying intent.
A confident smile playing beneath her mask, she replied, "Yes!"
At her response, not only Renee but also Alice blanched.
Adrian continued, "If there is surveillance, it should be easy to determine who stole the ring."
Upon hearing this, Renee's expression darkened further. She cast a desperate glance at Alice, seeking help.
Alice bit her lip, silently berating Renee for her incompetence. Fearing that the housekeeper might expose her, she quickly interjected, "The housekeeper has been with us for many years. It would be inappropriate to create a scene over this. Now that the ring has been found, let's just drop the matter."
"Alice, what are you..." Avery began, but catching Alice's gaze, she quickly understood and changed her tone. "You're too kind-hearted. Since you, the person directly involved, are not bothered, let's drop the matter, Natalie. This time, we'll overlook it, but be more careful in the future."
Natalie bit her lip, her body trembling with suppressed emotion.
'In the end, the blame is still being shifted onto me, even though it's clear that the real thief is Renee.'
But she knew that her home lacked surveillance cameras, and if she truly exposed Alice today, the Cullen family would be even less forgiving.
