Chapter 89 For My Mom

A fleeting shadow of melancholy crossed his usually indifferent countenance, only to vanish almost instantly. Without a word, he lifted the convertible top of the car, turning to Emily who was still in the midst of her tirade. "Emily," he said, "let's leave it at that. Don't make me grow to dislike you."

Having said his piece, he paid no mind to Emily's ashen face. Nor did he wait for Tanya, who had just emerged from the library and was yet to get into the car. Instead, he pressed his foot down on the accelerator, and the red sports car sped away.

In the heart of Rundle Street, Natalie and Bella discovered a quaint noodle restaurant for their midday meal. The owner, a middle-aged woman, was the epitome of hospitality. As she brought over their bolognese pasta, Natalie asked, "Do you know of any places nearby that sell chocolate bread?"

"Chocolate bread? There are plenty of places around here, especially at night. There's even a night market just down the next street," the woman replied with enthusiasm. "If you head a bit north from our shop, there's a popular bakery. But be warned, you might have to queue up during lunch hours. It's a favorite among the regulars on Rundle Street."

'Queue up?' Natalie pondered. It was unlikely to be that place. Although she had been blindfolded that day, the bodyguard who had been sent to buy the bread had returned swiftly. It was likely a random purchase from a less crowded shop.

"Thank you," Bella said, her expression betraying her confusion. "You want bread? We can buy some after we finish eating."

Rundle Street was nestled in the old neighborhood of Vachilit. Located near a high school, the street was bustling with students during meal times. As Natalie and Bella exited the restaurant, they had barely taken a few steps when they spotted the bakery the owner had mentioned.

"Is this the one? I'll go queue up," Bella offered.

"No need," Natalie quickly interjected, "let's check out other places."

"Right, the queue is too long," Bella agreed without a second thought, leading Natalie in search of another bakery.

After a moment's hesitation, Natalie stopped in her tracks. "Bella, actually, I'm looking for bread for my mom."

"Isn't she in the hospital?" Bella asked, puzzled.

Natalie shook her head, her eyes welling up involuntarily. She confessed about Rosalie being taken away by Avery. The weight of these events had been pressing down on her for some time, and now, it felt like she had found a release. Tears streamed down her face. However, she kept to herself the fact that she had assumed Alice's role and had undergone an abortion.

Bella listened, shock and anger etched on her face. "That's illegal! How could Avery do that?"

"Every time I visit my mom, I'm blindfolded. But I've calculated the time and distance, and I think it's this street. I just don't know which hospital my mom is in now."

Bella gripped Natalie's hand tightly. "I'll accompany you. Let's find her together."

The pair took another stroll down Rundle Street, eventually ending up at the entrance of a nearby middle school. An elderly man, likely in his sixties or seventies, was setting up a stall at the school gate. A sign on the stall read 'handmade bread'. He seemed to have just arrived and was still arranging his goods. Natalie approached him and said, "Mister, I want a piece of bread."

The boss smiled and handed her a piece. Natalie took a bite. The bread wasn't sweet, but the filling was fragrant. This was it. Natalie's eyes sparkled as she surveyed her surroundings - schools, residences, and convenience stores.

"Mister, do you know if there are any hospitals around here?" Natalie asked.
