Chapter 743 Guilty Conscience
So, even though Adrian mixed up Alice with Natalie, he didn't lay a finger on Alice. Instead, he just passed out drunk, leaving Alice pretty ticked off.
If Dynamic Entertainment hadn't pulled their cash from One Day, Alice wouldn't have cooked up this scheme. She was originally planning to get rid of the baby.
Emmett picked up on Alice's guilty conscience. She knew Alice too well. Seeing her all jittery, she knew something was up.
Could it be that the baby in Alice's belly wasn't Adrian's?
Emmett was freaking out inside.
Alice hadn't brought up the baby thing with her before, but luckily, there was no danger.
But now, Curtis were totally convinced that Alice was carrying Adrian's kid. He even handed Alice a million-dollar card to buy whatever she wanted, just waiting for her to become the Howard Family's leading lady.
At this point, Emmett gritted her teeth but kept a straight face. "It's been tough for Alice to get pregnant. Ever since the accident last year, she's been on meds every day to recover. She's been through so much, and finally, God showed some mercy and let her conceive again."
As she spoke, Emmett looked like she was on the verge of tears. Claire quickly patted her on the back.
Clair and Ruben, hearing about the accident last year, all remembered how Alice got hurt and lost the baby while saving Claire under the crystal chandelier, which took Alice half a year to recover.
They definitely felt sorry for Alice, which put the heat on Adrian to marry her.
But having Alice stay in the Howard Mansion was cool. Keeping her close, if anything went down, Adrian could have someone keep tabs on her. Alice definitely had some shady dealings with Carlos.
Adrian nodded. "Alright, stay in the Howard Mansion. We'll have someone take care of you. For now, forget about your job. We'll deal with that after the baby is born."
Hearing Adrian say this, Alice felt a wave of relief. But ditching her career in the entertainment industry really bugged her; it totally played into that witch Natalie's hands!
"However," Adrian suddenly said, making Alice's heart skip a beat. He squinted slightly. "I was already drunk, so why'd you take a photo? Do you have a habit of snapping pics of drunk people? Alice, I don't think you just wanted a simple photo."
Why did Alice take a photo when Adrian was drunk?
Alice's move hadn't raised eyebrows before; everyone was focused on the baby in her belly. Now, suddenly, everyone calmed down, and Alice was caught off guard. She took the photo because she was scared Adrian would deny it later, but now it seemed her action was weird and hard to explain.
Alice opened her mouth.
Even Claire was staring at Alice, waiting for her to explain.
However, Alice couldn't come up with anything. She got anxious and flustered.
Adrian smiled slightly. "No need to freak out. You know, our Howard Family is super strict about offspring. After all, the Howard Family has been in Vachilit for nearly a century. Lots of people want to marry into the Howard family, to get resources and benefits. We have to be careful about offspring, so naturally, everyone is happy you're pregnant."
Adrian's thin lips curved, but there was no glimmer of smile in his eyes.
