Chapter 1377 Suffered Too Much

Rachel's imposing presence seemed to have intimidated Mila. Her cheeks burned with pain, and she had no choice but to apologize and bow her head. "It was my fault, I'm sorry." She looked at Rachel standing before her and silently vowed that she would never let this woman off the hook.

Rachel released Mila, took out a handkerchief to wipe her hands, and then tossed it into a nearby trash can.

Mila watched Rachel's retreating figure and stomped her foot in frustration.

She pulled out her phone and dialed a number.

No one treats me like this. The humiliation Mila suffered today would definitely be repaid.

Rachel entered the lounge where Cara was. Cara had already changed her clothes and removed her makeup, her face looking fresh and clean. She looked at Rachel and stood up. "Mrs. Roach, thanks for stepping in earlier. You really didn't have to get on Mila's bad side because of me. Her family's pretty influential, and if you cross her, you might end up on the wrong side of the island's socialites."

"What kind of beef do you have with Mila? This is Kamille's birthday party, and she risked ticking off Kamille just to mess with you!" Rachel looked at the woman in front of her, dressed in a white gown, appearing clean and pure, probably quite young.

Cara replied, "Honestly... it's complicated. I guess Mila thinks Jeffrey likes me. And since she likes Jeffrey, she sees me as competition."

"How old are you?"

Cara answered, "20."

"Very young," Rachel couldn't help but admire.

Cara smiled, "Mrs. Roach, you married Mr. Roach. He's actually a very interesting person, but because of his health, he doesn't open up easily. With you by his side, I've seen him smile and his eyes light up."

"He wears sunglasses, how can you see that?"

"I've known Elmer for a long time, over ten years, since we were kids. He's always been this cold, aloof person who hides his true feelings. He hates being pitied and doesn't like people approaching him because of his money. But I know you're not like that, Mrs. Roach."

Rachel crossed her arms. "How do you know that? You've only met me tonight, and we're wearing masks. How can you tell what kind of person I am?"

"It's a feeling. I trust my instincts." Cara looked at the woman in the white fox mask. "Elmer has suffered a lot, so he doesn't talk about his hardships. His eyes are very sensitive; he can barely see during the day, and sunlight causes him pain. He rarely goes out and never attends important events, but he came today, and it must be because you brought him."

Rachel was taken aback.

"What did you just say? His eyes hurt in the sunlight?"

Cara nodded. "Yes, he probably didn't tell you. That's just how he is; he won't share his pain with others. His eyes hurt and he gets dizzy if exposed to sunlight for too long, so he almost never goes out during the day."

Rachel pressed her lips together. She hadn't realized that despite his blindness and the pain caused by sunlight, he still agreed to go out with her.

She felt a tightness in her chest.

She looked at Cara. "You really know him well."
