Chapter 489 This Matter Seems to Be Over

Natalie’s eyes were all puffy and red, but she managed a little smile. She got up, a bit wobbly on her feet. That wine was no joke—tasty but packed a punch. She wandered around barefoot on the carpet.

Like she was in some kind of ballet, she twirled a few times.

Finally, she shut her eyes and flopped down on the carpet.

She thought, 'When I open my eyes, I hope none of this is real. I don’t wanna be Avery’s kid. I wish I could go back 11 years and stop Dad and Ryan from leaving, tell them it’s gonna be dangerous.'

The Swan family.

Cassidy called, and Marissa picked up. Cassidy wanted Bella to come over for dinner at the Reynolds Mansion.

Marissa glanced at Bella, who nodded and headed upstairs to change. Marissa smiled and agreed, then hung up. She went to the bedroom and saw Bella in the walk-in closet, trying on clothes.

Bella asked, “Mom, does this look okay?”

Bella did a little spin, showing off her light blue dress.

Marissa smiled, “You look good in anything.”

Bella checked herself out in the mirror for a bit but decided to change. The blue dress was cute but kinda too casual. She tried on a red dress, then a gray one.

She finally settled on the gray dress.

Marissa noticed the smile on her face. “Bella, if you don’t want to...”

Bella cut her off, “I want to.”

There was a sparkle in her eyes.

She was down to go to the Reynolds Mansion and was cool with marrying Austin.

At 7:20 PM, Bella rolled up to the Reynolds Mansion.

Lucy was waiting at the door. “Ms. Swan, come on in. Mrs. Reynolds had the kitchen whip up a bunch of dishes today.”

Cassidy was chilling on the terrace. Bella walked over, and even though Cassidy didn’t turn around, she seemed to know Bella was there and slowly said, “Bella, have you thought about it?”

Bella looked down, feeling kinda uneasy.

She knew what Cassidy was getting at.

Cassidy wanted her to be a puppet, marry Austin, keep tabs on him, and report back.

Bella said, “Mrs. Reynolds, I’m just a regular person. I don’t wanna get mixed up in the Reynolds family drama. Plus, with Austin’s health, he’s not exactly a threat. You don’t need to worry.”

Cassidy smiled at her. “So, you’re saying no?”

Bella was stuck. “That’s not what I mean.”

She thought Cassidy would blow up if she refused, but to her surprise, Cassidy stayed calm and said, “Bella, I always thought you were a smart girl.”

Bella clenched her fingers. Standing behind Cassidy, she felt the pressure. “Mrs. Reynolds, I’m just a regular person.”

Lucy came over to say dinner was ready, and that seemed to be the end of it.

Cassidy smiled and invited her to the dining room.

Bella let out a sigh of relief and followed.

Maybe Cassidy wasn’t as bad as she thought.

In the dining room, the chef was explaining the dishes. The table was decked out with fancy food: four courses, two soups, and two desserts.

Bella ate quietly.

Every now and then, Cassidy asked a question or two, and Bella answered them all.

After dinner, Cassidy told Bella, “Take the dessert up to Austin.”

Bella nodded.

She grabbed the tray, happily heading upstairs. She was stoked to see Austin.

She got to the third floor.

Brian looked at her. “Mr. Reynolds is resting.”

It was already 8 o’clock.

Bella held the tray. “He’s already asleep?”

She looked a bit bummed. “Then I’ll head back.”

As she turned to leave, the door opened from the inside. Austin stood there, wearing gray pajamas, the collar slightly open, showing off his thin collarbone.
