Chapter 829 Losing Two Children in a Row
Avery and Curtis hurried over.
Curtis glanced at the surgery notice and froze. Even Avery was taken aback. Her eyes widened, and her face went pale. "Hysterectomy? How could this happen? Did you make a mistake?"
"The attending physician made this call based on the situation. It's the only way to save Alice's life. You need to think it over."
Ruben stood up, leaning on his cane with the butler's help. His face was grim. He hadn't expected Alice's condition to be this bad.
Melissa frowned, and Claire sighed. The whole corridor outside the operating room felt heavy.
If they agreed to the surgery and removed Alice's uterus, her life would be changed forever. But if they didn't, she wouldn't survive.
Curtis hesitated for a moment.
Avery closed her eyes, trembling, and signed the consent form. She wanted to save Alice's life. After signing, she was in a daze. The operating room door closed, and Avery's face turned as white as a sheet. She trembled violently and fainted.
Melissa, who was closest to Avery, instinctively caught her.
Curtis quickly called a doctor and had Avery taken to a nearby examination room to rest.
The corridor was filled with a stifling atmosphere.
Ruben sighed, and Claire silently prayed.
Alice was Adrian's fiancée, betrothed two years ago, but they had lost two children.
The Howard family hadn't had any new members in the past two years.
Everyone had mixed feelings.
Some were worried about Alice, while others were concerned about the lost child.
Some even thought Alice wasn't suitable for the Howard family.
They had lost two children in a row. One time, she almost lost her life. And this time, an ectopic pregnancy led to the removal of her uterus.
Two hours later, Alice was wheeled out of the operating room.
Eudora, wearing a mask, said, "The surgery was successful."
At least her life was saved.
Curtis sighed heavily, watching Alice being taken to the ICU.
He couldn't accept it. But having a life was better than no life at all.
Avery was still unconscious.
Curtis sat on the bench outside. At that moment, his phone rang. Without looking, he threw the phone to the ground. The emotions he had been holding back finally erupted. He couldn't take it anymore. Thinking of all the suffering Alice had endured, he finally let it all out.
Melissa told them to leave first and that she would stay and wait for Alice to wake up.
Adrian took Ruben and Claire back home.
At the Howard Mansion.
Adrian asked Rachel to stay with Claire. Although Rachel was at home, she had heard about what happened at the hospital. She nodded to Adrian and helped Claire to the bedroom. Claire didn't go back to her room right away but instead sat at a small table and copied the Bible.
Rachel stayed with Claire.
After they left, Adrian said to Ruben, "Grandpa, I need to talk to you."
After this incident, Ruben was also exhausted, but seeing Adrian's serious face, he nodded. "Let's talk in the study."
In the study.
The butler lit some incense. The scent was light and refreshing.
"Grandpa, don't you find it strange?" Adrian began, "The family accompanied her for prenatal check-ups, but the hospital didn't find out it was an ectopic pregnancy. When she came to the Howard family and said she was pregnant, the ultrasound report didn't mention an ectopic pregnancy. This time, she was suddenly hospitalized, had a massive hemorrhage from an ectopic pregnancy, and had her uterus removed. I think something is wrong."
