Chapter 758 Departure

Anouk hung up and handed the phone back to the cop, then plopped down on the couch.

Natalie could tell Anouk was feeling down. She also noticed that Anouk's call didn't go through in her first try.

They were more like casual acquaintances, so Natalie wasn't sure how to comfort her. She gave Anouk a gentle pat on the shoulder. Anouk, looking pale, forced a smile and said, "I'm fine."

Anouk had bolted after a blowout with her husband over their looming divorce.

Even if he knew she was kidnapped, he probably wouldn't give a damn and might even blame her for taking off.

Anouk wasn't made of stone. Her heart was shattered. Seeing her husband with her sister was like a knife to the gut. She took a deep breath and said, "Natalie, when you get a chance, let's hang out in Vachilit. Go home and get some rest. I'm a scriptwriter, so maybe we'll cross paths again soon."

Natalie nodded. "My boyfriend's on his way. He can give you a ride. We'll head back to Vachilit together."

Anouk nodded.

They waited for half an hour.

Finally, Adrian showed up. Natalie jumped up, and Adrian rushed over, wrapping her in a bear hug, holding her tight. For the first time, Adrian was genuinely freaked out, having searched everywhere for her.

Adrian's heart was pounding like crazy, and Natalie could feel it.

Adrian's body was ice-cold, carrying the scent of night fog.

He held Natalie so tight, and she hugged him back just as fiercely. They clung to each other like their lives depended on it.

Natalie pressed her face against Adrian's chest, listening to his strong heartbeat.

They hugged for what quite a while before finally letting go. Natalie felt a bit awkward since they were at the police station.

Blushing slightly, Natalie said to Adrian, "This is Anouk, a friend I met when I was kidnapped."

Adrian's eyes darkened. "Kidnapped?"

Natalie hadn't mentioned the kidnapping on the phone, but she'd been missing for 24 hours, and her phone was gone. Adrian had a hunch she was taken, but he didn't expect it to be a full-on kidnapping.

Natalie nodded, feeling a bit shaken. "You were getting coffee, and I was waiting at a nearby stall. Suddenly, someone bumped into my shoulder. I felt a sting and went numb and blacked out. I didn't even get a chance to call out to you. When I woke up, I was in some abandoned house in Aviara Town, miles away from Rosewood. It seemed like a group had kidnapped us to sell us. Anouk and I were drugged and taken. We made a run for it when the kidnappers were resting."

Adrian glanced at Anouk. She was also young and pretty. These creeps probably targeted young, attractive women in crowded spots.

Adrian asked, concerned, "You said someone bumped your shoulder. Does it still hurt?"

Natalie unbuttoned her shirt a bit, showing her shoulder. "There's a needle mark. They must've drugged me. I was out cold in seconds."

There was a small, slightly red needle mark on Natalie's smooth skin.

Adrian frowned, his fingers trembling as he gently touched it, then pulled Natalie into another hug. "I'm so sorry I didn't protect you."

Natalie shook her head. It wasn't Adrian's fault.

They were on vacation, after all. Who could've seen this coming?

Seeing Adrian beat himself up, Natalie felt a pang in her chest.

They signed some papers and wrapped up the procedures.
