Chapter 746 Your Love Might Invite Danger Coming for Her
John was powerful and had his own connections. Back in the day, he was always Ruben's right-hand man. Joe knew John had some shady dealings going on. Ruben did, too.
But as long as it didn't stir up trouble or mess with the Howard Family, they turned a blind eye.
Now, John's kid, Carlos, was a nothing but a wuss—no guts, no glory.
Joe pondered and asked, "Got any proof that Carlos messed with the chandelier?"
Adrian nodded, "Yep, we nabbed the guy who did it. The cash in his account came straight from Carlos. The guy confessed everything."
Joe was confused. "But what's Alice got to do with this? Would she really risk her baby? What if someone got seriously hurt or worse? If there's no solid proof linking Alice, don't tell your mom. She's still torn up about losing her baby. She's been hitting up church all year. It'd break her heart."
Adrian nodded. "Mom knows, but she ain't buying it."
Joe sighed, "Once things cool down, let Alice stay at the Howard Mansion. We'll take care of her. We can find out everything when the baby comes. If it's not yours, we cut ties with the Cullen family. If it is, you gotta marry Alice."
Adrian shut his eyes for a sec. "Dad, I don't love Alice. I don't wanna marry her. I don't wanna wait a year. I love someone else."
"Is it Natalie?" Joe had heard the name before.
Adrian nodded. "Dad, I'll prove the kid ain't mine. Until then, Alice stays at the mansion, but I'm not marrying her. She saved me once, and I feel bad, but I gotta follow my heart."
Joe sighed. "Donte's always watching you. Even though you run the Howard Group, a lot of folks are keeping tabs. Donte's doing a good job with the branch. Ruben might favor you, but plenty of shareholders back Donte. Be careful. Your love for Natalie might invite danger coming for her."
Adrian clenched his fist. He knew he had to protect Natalie by keeping his feelings under wraps.
"I get it," Adrian nodded.
Natalie and Adrian were supposed to go on a trip today.
Natalie thought it was over.
She didn't know why Adrian went missing for a day, but she figured he hit a snag. He wouldn't ditch her otherwise.
Even though she got it, her good mood was shot. Natalie began putting everything back in the closet.
Suddenly, she heard a key in the lock.
Besides her, only Adrian had a key to this place.
Natalie was startled. She stood up and walked to the door.
Adrian walked in, and Natalie looked at him.
Her eyes welled up. "I thought you weren't coming. I couldn't reach you."
Adrian walked over and hugged her. "I'm sorry."
He held her tight, pressing her head against his chest. His voice was muffled. "I'm sorry I'm late. Something came up."
