Chapter 437 Picky
So, it was evening, and they were chilling in this private room.
Esme was there too. Natalie didn't really chat much with Esme on set. Even though Esme was the big-shot director, she'd been swamped with international award stuff for the past couple of weeks. Samantha's scenes were mostly handled by Connor, and Chris took care of Natalie's.
Natalie had only seen Esme a handful of times. At 39, Esme was one of the youngest and most badass female directors in the biz. She rocked a light blue dress, looking all classy. She had this gentle look, but her eyes were sharp, and her words were even sharper.
"Natalie, you killed it," Esme said. "Chris can't stop singing your praises."
Natalie was kinda surprised. She thought Esme might just be being nice.
But then she thought again. A director like Esme wouldn't need to butter up a small-time actress like her.
Natalie glanced at Chris. "Thanks, Chris."
Chris didn't expect Esme to put him on the spot and felt a bit awkward. He shot Esme a look, like, "Really?" Esme just smiled. "Chris, you mentioned last night that Natalie is a ball of energy."
Chris glared at Esme. They'd worked together for years and knew each other well. From not caring much about Natalie to appreciating her, to now feeling bad for her lack of ambition, Esme could tell Chris valued Natalie.
As Natalie's scenes wrapped up, two other actors also finished their parts. Tonight, there were over a dozen people at the table, including three directors and several actors who got along well on set.
"Sorry, I'm late," Harper said, pushing the door open. "Just shot a commercial, so I got held up."
Esme said, "Not late, just in time."
Natalie handed the menu to Harper. Harper had been dieting and complained, "After this movie, I gotta jump to the next crew right away. My agent's on my case to lose 5 pounds before then! I'll just have a fruit salad."
Harper eyed the meat on Natalie's plate with envy, "Natalie, I so envy you. Wish I could eat that, but I can't. If my agent finds out, I'll get chewed out."
Harper's arrival livened up the place.
She was not only gorgeous but also great at creating a fun vibe. She got along well with both Esme and Chris on set, and her straightforward, easy-going personality made her popular with everyone.
Connor asked, "Harper, what's your next gig?"
Harper said, "The Moonlight Flows Like a River of Solitude."
Connor nodded. "Big budget on that one. Make the most of it."
Harper smiled. The lead actress in that show was the now-famous Daisy Cooper, who'd blown up thanks to a hit TV series this year. Daisy had nailed the transition from singer to actress.
Harper had snagged the second female lead in this show, a role with a lot of screen time. Her agent had worked hard to get her that role. Originally, it was meant for one of her teammates, but as the signing approached, the teammate didn't want to play second fiddle, so it went to Harper. Naturally, Harper didn't want to miss such a good opportunity and jumped on it, joining the crew almost right after wrapping up, without taking a single day off.
"By the way, Natalie, have you decided on your next role?" Harper asked while munching on her salad. "Dynamic Entertainment Media has tons of shows this year. Nat, don't be too choosy. Jump on a crew once you find something that works with your schedule."
From working with Natalie, Harper knew she was pretty frugal, still using an old phone model. Natalie probably didn't make much from her roles.
Natalie smiled. She knew Harper wanted her to join more crews and make more money.
"Not yet," Natalie said, "No rush."
Chris snorted. "She's too busy dating to be in a hurry."
Hearing this, Natalie just shrugged.
