Chapter 397 Unexpected Incident

Alice seemed totally clueless about it.

Claire was all wrapped up in her own thoughts when she suddenly heard a freaked-out scream.

She looked up and saw Isla's face go pale. "Mrs. Howard, watch out!"

What the heck? Claire didn't even have time to think.

Out of nowhere, something shoved her hard. She stumbled back a few steps and hit the ground, her arm throbbing. Then, chaos erupted around her with people screaming and shouting.

Avery yelled, panicked, "Alice!"

"Mrs. Howard, Mrs. Howard, you okay?" Someone nearby helped Claire up.

Claire, in her high heels, twisted her ankle from the push and winced in pain. But when she saw what was in front of her, her eyes went wide with shock. "Alice!"

The floor was littered with shards from the fallen crystal chandelier, and Alice was trapped under the massive thing. Blood was pouring out, making the scene look like a horror movie. She was already out cold.

When the huge chandelier in the banquet hall had fallen, Alice had shoved Claire out of the way.

"Help! Alice!" Avery was on the ground, looking at Alice stuck under the chandelier, almost losing it. She looked at Claire. "Mrs. Howard, Mrs. Howard, please save my daughter!"

Claire was in total shock, her heart racing.

Someone shouted, "The ambulance is here, the ambulance is here!"

Alice was then lifted onto a stretcher, and a bunch of people rushed to the hospital. The charity gala came to a screeching halt, leaving everyone whispering and gossiping.

Claire had organized the charity gala every year to do some good, but now her daughter-in-law and unborn grandkid might be gone.

Adrian got the call and rushed to the hospital. At the end of the hallway was the operating room. He looked serious, lips tight, as he walked quickly. He looked down at the trail of blood leading from the stairwell to the operating room door. "Mom."

Claire saw him and walked over, almost breaking down. "Adrian."

Adrian glanced at Claire, seeing she was okay, and felt a bit relieved. His eyes were glued to the operating room, where the display showed Alice had been inside for 20 minutes.

Claire walked over, and Adrian hugged her.

He tried to comfort her. "It'll be okay, Mom."

Claire, with tears streaming down her face, said, "Alice saved me. If it weren't for Alice, I'd be the one lying in there. But Alice and her baby..."

Adrian felt a heavy weight in his chest. He held Claire, who cried on his shoulder.

About five minutes later, the sound of footsteps echoed down the hallway. Curtis came running. He and Avery had been fighting for over a month, but now, with Avery in tears, all their differences seemed to disappear. Avery collapsed into his arms, pounding his chest and crying uncontrollably. Curtis felt a chill down his spine as he looked towards the operating room.

The hallway was filled with low, sobbing cries, creating a somber and eerie vibe.

The operating room door stayed shut tight.

Everyone was on edge.

A few minutes later, more footsteps were heard. Joe, Melissa, and Ruben showed up.

Ruben's face was serious as he looked at the operating room. They already knew what had gone down: the chandelier had fallen, and Alice had saved Claire, getting trapped underneath herself. It looked like both the baby and Alice were in serious trouble.

Melissa tried to comfort the heartbroken Avery with soothing words.
