Chapter 881 No Absolute Secrets
Alice spotted the diamond ring on Natalie's finger, totally clueless about what Natalie was getting at.
Natalie leaned in close and whispered in Alice's ear, "It's the engagement ring Adrian gave me. Do you like it?"
Alice's eyes widened, her face contorting in shock.
If they weren't at this fancy gala, Alice would've slapped Natalie right then and there.
'I know Adrian likes Natalie! Does Adrian know it was Natalie who saved him? Does Adrian know it was Natalie who was with him the first time?' Alice thought, stepping back, her face going pale under the crystal chandelier.
A bunch of socialites noticed Alice's reaction, wondering what was up with her and why she suddenly looked so weak.
One of them, Sandra, walked over and supported Alice. "Alice, what's wrong? Is it because of the miscarriage that you haven't fully recovered?" Sandra was in a dark blue velvet gown, one of Alice's friends, though they'd had a falling out before.
But almost all these friends were super fake. Sandra found out Alice had been talking trash about her and wasn't happy about it.
Sandra came from a way more privileged background than Alice.
But Alice, using her pregnancy as a strategy, managed to snag a spot in the Howard family.
And Sandra still had to suck up to Alice!
Sandra was at her breaking point. When she found out Alice was badmouthing her, she naturally cut ties.
This time, Sandra swayed her hips as she walked over to support Alice. Knowing about Alice's miscarriage, Sandra immediately mocked her.
Sandra had also snuck in; the Hall family was decent but not top-tier. She used a friend's invite to get in. Seeing Alice acting all high and mighty, Sandra felt a desire to ridicule her.
Alice's miscarriage was supposed to be a secret. But in this world, there are no absolute secrets.
Sandra had heard about it through some gossip. At this high-society gala, almost everyone was someone important, and the chatter grew louder.
"What, Alice had a miscarriage?"
"I just saw news about Alice being pregnant a few days ago. There was so much talk about her pregnancy, and that she was about to marry into a wealthy family! Mr. Howard was finally going to marry her, but it turns out she had a miscarriage."
"This is the second child Alice has lost, right?"
"Mr. Howard announced their engagement two years ago, and they still haven't gotten married. It's obvious he doesn't like her. He only agreed to marry her because of the child. Now that the child is gone, Alice's dream of marrying into a wealthy family is probably shattered."
