Chapter 114 You Can Consider It Accepted
"I..." Natalie found herself at a loss for words, her fists clenched tightly as she struggled to articulate her thoughts.
Jagger, on the other hand, felt a sense of relief wash over him. His concerns had lessened now that he had voiced his feelings. He met Natalie's gaze with a steady one of his own, stating earnestly, "I mean it, Natalie. Ever since the day you first brought your mother to the hospital, I noticed you. Your kindness, your strength, your resilience - they drew me in. I believe we complement each other well."
Natalie felt a wave of helplessness wash over her. "Dr. Kamel," she began, her voice soft, "you're an extraordinary man, but I am not as good as you perceive me to be. You're aware of my mother's condition, and I haven't even graduated college yet. I don't have a stable job, while you excel in every aspect of your life. I'm not deserving of you."
"Natalie, I'm serious!" Jagger's grip on Natalie's fingers tightened. "Don't dismiss me so hastily. Let's give us a chance. I don't care about your job. As a doctor, I can help you take care of Mrs. Teeger. If it doesn't feel right later, we can part ways."
Natalie remained silent, unable to deny the attraction she felt towards him.
Jagger was indeed remarkable. He was handsome, refined, and came from a family of scholars. He had always been ambitious. But what about her? She didn't feel worthy of someone as exceptional as him.
"Natalie, will you give us a chance?" Jagger asked, his voice filled with anticipation.
Natalie was momentarily lost in her thoughts, the warmth from Jagger's hand seeping into hers.
"If you don't respond, I'll take it as a yes," Jagger said, a hint of nervousness creeping into his voice. "I'll count to three."
Natalie's breath hitched. She hadn't even had the chance to formulate a response when she heard Jagger say, "Three."
Her eyes widened in surprise.
Catching her off guard, she stammered, "Dr. Kamel, you-"
She hadn't expected Jagger, a man of such integrity, to resort to such tactics.
Jagger, too, seemed embarrassed. He ran a hand through his hair, saying, "Natalie, I'll take that as a yes."
Natalie was too flustered to respond.
Caught in the awkward silence, a familiar female voice broke the tension. "Adrian, are we dining here?"
Natalie instinctively turned around to see Adrian and Alice entering the restaurant.
Alice's gaze fell on Natalie and Jagger, her eyes widening in surprise. "What are you doing here?"
Adrian's gaze followed Alice's, his icy stare landing on Natalie and Jagger.
His eyes narrowed, scrutinizing the pair.
Unaware of the tension between them, Jagger greeted them politely, "Mr. Howard, Ms. Cullen."
Adrian acknowledged the greeting with a slight nod.
Alice, however, haughtily lifted her chin, her arm looped through Adrian's. She addressed the waiter, "We have a private room reserved under Mr. Howard's name."
The waiter, respectful in his demeanor, prepared to lead them away. However, Alice noticed Adrian's gaze still fixed on Natalie.
To her surprise, he suggested, "Why not dine together?"
Natalie was quick to decline and said, "No, thanks."
"Adrian." Alice was taken aback by his invitation. She couldn't fathom why he would invite Natalie, someone of such low status, to dine with them.
Jagger smiled. "Thank you for your offer, Mr. Howard, but we have already booked a private room. We wouldn't want to intrude on your dinner."
"Is that so?" Adrian sneered, "You accompanied Ms. Teeger to the birthday banquet last night, and now you're here on a date. You two must be quite close."
Jagger missed the sarcasm in Adrian's voice. He scratched his head sheepishly, holding Natalie's hand in his. "Thank you for your concern, Mr. Howard. Natalie has just agreed to be my girlfriend."
Natalie pursed her lips, neither confirming nor denying his statement.
She gently tugged at Jagger's hand and whispered, "Let's go somewhere else."
Adrian's gaze fell on their intertwined hands, a flicker of anger flashing in his eyes.
